Blackstone Labs ATF Report

When I drained my trans fluid the week before last I took a sample to send to Blackstone labs. No real reason other than curiosity.

I find their comments to be confusing honestly. They called out copper even though it's lower than the universal average.

Anyways, here it is for anyone that finds this sort of thing interesting. I realize some people have no use for these reports but I like to nerd out sometimes.

For reference-I'm running Valvoline Maxlife Synthetic ATF.

The nuance is 38k vs. 8k miles on the fluid.

 

How many miles on the transmission? Do you know the history on prior maintenance? Thanks for posting!

 

Good point. I really wasn't sure what to put there. It's been around 8K since my last drain and fill a year ago but that only got out 1/3 of the fluid. So I'm sure it sill has some old fluid mixed in there. Or so I would think.

172,000 miles. The original owner had the transmission serviced at 59k and 90K. I took over ownership at 138K and I've done it 2-3 times. It's been very well maintained.

 

I’d switch back to Dex/Merc if the Copper remains a problem.

 

Looks great. If concerned do a drain/fill every other oil change.

 

If this test is your first it will be the baseline assessment. I would not compare to universal standards but to your next test. If you plan to do follow up routine tests, compare it to this test which could identify any abnormal changes or trends.
