04 with Electrical issues!

Evening folks, have a real strange issue here, was putting a new exhaust system, manifolds back.


My battery was dead when I finished and threw the charger on for a day.


Next day I see that the head lights are on, no parking lights(stalk switch is turned off), dash trouble indicators, VSC, seat belt indicator, air bag indicator and such are all on, WITHOUT A KEY IN THE IGNITION OR TURNED ON!


Truck starts, runs and turns off normally....


Also with the key off and out of the ignition, the power windows will work if pressed...


Have gone through my service manual and schematics but don't see anything that sticks out as the issue.


Disconnect the ignition switch and nothing changes.


This is really breaking my butt off!

Have checked the archives and don't see the same issue mentioned.


Anyone else have this issue!!!!!

Did you remove any wiring to work on the truck? The main battery ground is bolted to the side of the engine block and maybe it got disturbed?

As always, check all fuses first and make sure cables are clean/tight. If the battery is dead, get it tested to see if it’s even holding a good charge. After that, start tracing your steps and see what might have been moved.

 

No wires removed other than O2's
Battery is fully charged and good

Accessories receiving constant 12v. Where did you disconnect ignition switch? At the column or at the fuse box?

 

The acc on wire, is close to constant 12v in the column, and all that mess is in a tight space subject to chafing with steering wheel movement if anything is out of place.

Integration relay maybe???? Where is it?

 

A plow, huh, snow = salt. bummer, Step one pull the main fuse for the plow electric at the battery. Rule out whether or not it is powering your accessories. If the headlights stay on, pull your headlight relays, see if the dash lights are still on. Then start pulling fuses for full time 12v like the horn fuse etc. See if you can narrow it down to a smaller set of wires so you don't have to trace all of them.

 

Yeah have isolated the plow out of the equation and it doesn't change anything.
Have pulled every relay inside and out without change to the dash indicators being on!
Only effect was the headlight relay.....

no, on the docket for today!
AND run a scanner....

headlight goes off, no change in dash indicators or other accessories

 

when time allows I would isolate the circuit. YMMV

 

Find and pull the dashlight fuse with the window and headlight relays in. Which of the three work:?

Pulled every fuse today, The dash indicators go off when the Gauge or the ECU-ign fuses are pulled, but the headlights don't go out and the power windows and most other accessories work at the same time!

 

I have opted to replace the cabin fuse panel with the integration relay assembly, we'll see! The power has to be passing to the accessory circuits and power windows.

 

always a freak show when you have a short but the load is still in place. Did you unplug the rear plug on the integrator panel that goes to the key switch, while leaving the others all connected?

 

The only connector that was effective was the connector to the engine compartment, when removed that was impacting on the issue!

 

So that was your issue and it is now fixed?

 

Waiting for the fuse module now!

 

Well, it wasn't the cabin module!!!

Decided to take a look at the engine bat module for the fusible links, took apart the R/B no1 and 2 modules..... MOUSE NEST!!!!

12 chewed and uninsulated wires!!!!

Now the problem is 4 of the connectors on R/B 2 are all keyed the same and there wasn't a way to take a picture of the connections with the way the panel comes apart!!!!

The service manual shows relays/fuse modules show a connector view with the exception of this module!!!!!!

Have to determine the proper location correctly now!!!!! JJEEEZZZZ!!!!!!!!
