Hmmm... I didn’t see an SST note in the FSM. I guess I’ll take my replacement shopping with me tomorrow.

On another note, fuck every single bit of these upper ball joints. I finally coaxed the drive side into place but you can bet the passenger one is taking a freezer nap tonight.

 

Lol. Yes we have inner tie rod tools supplied by OTC. No clue the sizes, they’re not SST tools in the normal idea of them. But they’re tools that the shop supplies.

But we do all of like 1 inner a year totally for the shop. Typically if the inner is shot the racks leaking a way

 

Inner tie rod removal tool. Rent from local parts store or swing by local repair shop and ask if you can borrow.

You guys are rock stars. I was likely gonna bail on them but it looks like a local part store has a loaner!

 

I broke the connector on my fuel line putting it back on (black one... The yellows all good) can I just throw a new connector like this one on there or do I need to replace the entire line? I really cant find the answer online.

 

I got fucked when I did mine because the aftermarket part I bought had to big of a ball. The rental tool took the old ones off but wouldn't put the new ones on so check before you remove the old ones.

 

You can try. It’s not easy. Might have to cut a little back and splice and extra but of line then the new connector

 

Hahaha, too little too late. Had the exact same problem. Thankfully I have a massive pair of channel locks that made easy work of it. Couldn’t exactly check torque specs but eh, that’s what the claw washer is for. Used red loctite for a little extra insurance.

 

It had been raining on Friday, and I made a U-turn, which then launched a nice fish tail. Only way to combat that is to keep it in 4WD-HI, what do you guys recommend? I have to remember to take it out of 4WD when making tight turns/parking.

I had a similar problem. I ended up going to the local harbor freight and bought the biggest pliers I could get my hands on. Took care of it no problem.

 

Sand bags in the rear?

 

Dont accelerate too hard when turning and get nicer tires and some weight in the back? Lol might help

 

You should get a newish SHO. Totally problem free cars. And that transverse AWD is really great.

Rear sway bar.

 

Nicer tires would probably help. I was actually taking it easy on the accelerator, knowing I'd have to deal with a 180 if I wasn't paying attention.

I'm wondering more about whether most of you engage 4WD-HI in the rain. Are there any adverse effects (ie - additional wear/tear) when in 4WD-Hi when roads are clear / dry?

 

I figured it out. There was a wierd warping layer of plastic wrap on the line that was jamming it. Cleaned it all up and was able to put the connector back together. Stopped the leak so now I wait to see if that dam check engine light comes back on. Thanks for always helping me out here.

 

Not quite as old manish as the LS, but I loved my 08 GS350, it was a perfect blend of comfort and sporty it did use oil and the heat shield melted off (AWD problem) but I got it for $10K with 96,000 miles.

 

Ive been trying to find that tundra before as it was parked by my house once and I assumed he had an instagram. I posted a photo in here back in july.

 

Cool to see you got your hitch hooked up, I was wondering if there is a difference between an accessory hitch and the one you bought? BTW your truck is looking awesome.

 

This one is the accessory hitch. The “factory” one replaces the whole bumper support and costs an ungodly amount of money

 

3 ton should be good for most passenger vehicles, 6 ton won't hurt but the saddle may be too large to fit some places. The ratcheted ones are a lot easier to adjust also.

 

@empty_lord I need to get 8+ quarts back into the transmission. I'm guessing if I try to add that much I'll overflow the dipstick. Should I start the truck after adding 4-5 quarts?

 

Anybody here think about installing a Power Steering Fluid Cooler on their early gens?

Research shows that the same Steering Pump is in the later gens with the OEM PS Cooler (basically a metal pipe in front of the engine fan) so I don’t think I need to worry about pressure issues installing one where there isn’t.

Derale has a junior coppered finned one for about $35 with the hose. Might need to purchase a little more hose to make it work, but thats low cost.

 

Fill, run through park reverse neutral and drive, park again, top off, repeat a few times, then go on a short drive, check level on flat ground and add accordingly

 

When I do my p/s lines I plan on putting the tow package lines (has the outlet for the cooler) and install that same cooler. But this is quite a ways down the line

 

Not the cleanest option or a perfect fit. The search continues. Cali raised’s bracket will fit and would need a little modification to be if I was gonna use it to. Probably gonna be returning it.

the stock fog lights use a locking tab to hold in place. Rigids kit mentions that it snaps in place. I think I’m gonna order it before I write this project off as a no go




where as the Cali raised bracket has a long threaded piece on top. The top tab could me trimmed to make it an option for our trucks

 

Here's where I'm at with the design stage of the lighted switches.

I've found a location. I'm going to use my sunglasses compartment to mount them.

Does toyota make a version of this without the sunglasses hole? It may look cleaner without the crease.

I can't decide what would look better.
