Re-posting this here to get a few more points of view.

Time to get a new truck and I need some advice. Making the switch from an F-150 4WD Lariat Super Crew to a Tundra 4WD Crew Max. I may be pulling a light RV a couple of times of year, and one day a slide-in camper or a platform camper/tent. Will be spending some time in the woods and would like to run 33-34 inch tires.

I've narrowed it down to the TRD Pro and the Limited. The TRD Pro might only require new tires. I like the sound of the Coachbuilder TRD Pro kit, which is under $1k. I could run a set of 295/70/r18 KO2s with that set up and be happy, unless someone tells me the TRD Pro wheels are too narrow. To get the Limited where I want it, with about 2 inches of lift and a more capable suspension, I would have to invest in a real lift kit with new components. I'm open to suggestions on the brand, but Icon sure seems nice. I'd also want to swap or cover most of the chrome on the truck, and probably swap out the grill for the TRD Pro grill with logo spelled out.

Both trucks would have to be ordered. MSRP on the TRD Pro is $55,790. MSRP on the Limited is $51,735. So which would you get, the TRD Pro requiring fewer mods, or the Limited limited requiring more mods? I imagine it may actually be cheaper to just go with TRD Pro.

Would anyone wait to see what the 2022 Tundra looks like? Let me know what you guys think.

    Biased opinion. The pro.

    Wheels are not too narrow.
Will have better resale value than the limited.
Currently the pro is a limited build, just different suspension.
    And don't get white!

You should be able to get more knocked off the msrp of a limited vs a pro/platinum. I purchased a limited 4wd cremax and kinda wish i had held out for a platinum but i couldnt get any dealers to budge on the colors i wanted so i saved close to $8k going with limited compared to platinum or pro, but that was 2 years ago.

No pro in 2018...unless you were looking at 2019 and reason you got 8k off was you purchased a 2018.

Yes, i looked for 8 months at 2017 and 2018 models, purchased mid year 2018. Only saw 1 new Pro while looking across 3 dealerships in San Antonio.

Not to discredit the crew max, but unless you have Amazonian kids, the dc is quite capable. I am six foot and got back there no problem. I went crew max because I wanted more cab room. I store hunting equipment that I don't want weathered in the back seat as well as my 3 labs.

But the crew max will have more room for them to climb in and out of a lot easier that's for sure.

Dang, figured there would be more of them running around that area since they are built there.

What do you think of the suspension on the Pro? Best bang for your buck or could you do better for 2-3k with an aftermarket setup?

The DC has better safety ratings than the CM. Every year actually.

Why do you think that is? Does it have to do with the extra weight of the cab?

Like others said, check the payload. Very few slide in campers will work. None with any features or a bathroom.

Definitely has something to do with the cab. Forgot what/why though. But true.

Payload difference between the DC and CM is just 70 lbs (1630 lbs and 1560 lbs, respectively). I see a lot of Tundras rocking 4 Wheel Campers of various models, including the Hawk slide-in on their website, which has a dry weight of 1,075 lbs and a wet weight of about 1,827 lbs. I know many of these trucks have suspension upgrades, but strictly speaking these upgrades don't increase payload. Would if be safe to say that most people with Tundras and campers are overloading their vehicles (based on the numbers)?

I don't know. Never had aftermarket suspension. But the fox pro shocks are way better than the bilstein suspension on my 2017 SR5 I had.
Need to check the door tags. It's substantially less than that on my crewmax. 20200721_214756.jpg

Good info. It looks like the door tags and the published payload specs don't necessarily match. Same goes for the Ford.

2019 Tundra TRD Pro CM published payload is 1560 lbs. Door tag says 1230 lbs.
2020 F-150 4x4 Lariat SuperCrew published payload is 2137 lbs. Door tag says 1607 lbs.

Yes, real payload is much lower than what they say. I think my sticker says around 1200, but it’s much lower due to mods. If you get different tires like 33/34s, it’ll reduce your payload even more. Any tundra with a slide in camper like a lance is overloaded. 4 wheel campers weigh a little less, but with gear and water and people you will easily eat up any left over payload.

I have an ARE cap and decked drawers and with my family on a trip with bags, we are probably over payload.

MGM TRD Pro back on order after resurrecting a deal with the dealer. Should be here next week.

What do you folks think about buying an extended warranty? What should I expect to pay for a few more years of coverage?

If I could do it over, I'd buy a 2014-17 Pro. The bells and whistles added in 18+ are a waste and kind of annoying. Plus everybody loves the old TRD Pro grille.
