Kenwood eXcelon Reference DMX1057XR

Got this put in my Tacoma. Wish I would have known about it sooner.

I did have one issue though, my gps was working but it was off by like 2 miles. Turns out satellite radio and gps have plugs that are the same..

 

Congratulations! that's an awesome upgrade from stock.

Kenwood makes some great HUs. My best friend, who calls himself an audiophile, swears by them.

However, $1740 + Tax is a lot for my pocket to just to swap the HU. OUCH!

Here's pics of the radio installed. Did the install yesterday and took my time with it. Love how it looks and how much it improves the sound of the stock speakers.

 

Looks great and more importantly SOUNDS great! I think the most amazing difference is telephone calls. Sounds like the person is in the truck with me. Also, much better mid-bass!

How did you get weather data to show up? Is that an add-on for SiriusXM?

Honestly, I'm not sure. It was just there. I'll go out and see what I can find out.

 

How long did it take to install?

 

Took me about 6 hours...hardest thing was running the RCAs but I wasn't in a hurry either.

 

Can you take some from the drivers and passenger seats so we can get a side view?

Had my first random restart tonight...listening to iTunes through wireless Apple carplay at a low level and the unit randomly shut off and restarted and then was normal...

Wow! That's weird. I wonder if there's an update for the system.

 

Someone on FB said their DMX1057 has restarted 3x now. We are early adopters and my guess is we are late-stage beta testers and we should be on the lookout for updates.

 

My DMX906S reboots randomly - very infrequently but it happens.

 

Gotcha. You’re the first one I’ve heard of. That is true even though I hate that stuff.

I’ve tried to find a pattern but it’s very random. It’s so infrequent it’s not annoying so I just deal with it. Good thing is it reboots in like 30 seconds.

 

Someone of FB said it has to do with inconsistent voltage from the RR and that there is a way to wire it so this is not an issue. If it becomes a constant issue I'll look into this otherwise I'm hoping it's infrequent.

 

So you have the rr module? I have the rr2 and haven't had any issues yet. I wonder if that makes a difference.

Another tip - they DO NOT make a USB adapter for 2020+ Tundras but these kill two birds with one stone and get USB and HDMI installed at the same time...super easy install too. The existing USB port pops right out, this one snaps back in and then it's just plugging in wires.

Also, I've tried the screen out vs in and in is MUCH better. Less bounce over bumps and looks much neater.

 

Damn, I used the adapter in my 17 but was planning on replacing it with a USB/HDMI plug. I’m gonna check this one out.

Has anyone tried connecting something to the hdmi output? I tried connecting a roku stick and all I get is a signal not found message?

 

I can’t tell. Does the screen block the HVAC display?

 

The screen height is adjustable. In the stock position, it does block the HVAC display but at the highest position, there is plenty of room. My screen is in the highest/closest to the dash position and it's perfect! Looks like the dash was designed for it.

 

Not yet, but I will eventually. Hopefully it starts working for you.
