Hey guys, I've had kind of a weird thing happen twice this week, inexplicably. It's pretty cold here, and we just got a bunch of snow. The other day I was in my parents driveway, and getting ready to leave. I turned my truck on, was facing up-hill, and pressed the traction control button once to activate auto LSD. With auto LSD enabled, I put the truck in drive, and started to give it the gas, the tires spun a little bit, I could hear the LSD working like normal for a second, then, the parking brake light, ABS light, VSC light lit up solid, while the 4hi/4lo lights flashed. The auto LSD was no longer working, and I couldn't shift the truck into 4wd, but there was no power loss, and no check engine light. I turned the truck off, and back on, all the lights reset, and the truck drove as it does normally. Fast forward to this Wednesday, just two days after the incident described above, I was on my way to work. Again, it was snowing, roads were shitty, I was in 2wd, and had auto LSD activated. I was at a stop light, stopped on somewhat of an incline, and started to go again. Again, the tires spun a little bit, and I could hear LSD working for a second, then all the lights came on (ABS, brake, VSC were solid, and 4hi/4lo were flashing), and none of the grannies worked/couldn't put the truck in 4wd. I pulled into the parking lot at work, shut the truck off, turned it back on, and the lights reset/the truck drove as it does normally. Again, no check engine light, and all the lights reset after restarting the truck. Both times this has happened the truck has had LSD active, and the tires spun a little bit from a stop on an incline... Anyone have this issue/these lights light up, and reset by restarting the truck?

I took it to the dealership today for an oil change that I had scheduled, and mentioned it to them, they had no idea/no input to offer. they said to stop by when it is happening and they'll read the codes to see what's causing it. Apparently the ABS system doesn't store old codes like the check engine light does. So, I got a car wash, where the undercarriage was pressure washed today, and I checked all the wires going to the speed sensors in the hubs, and don't see any obvious issues/cuts. Also, if the wires were cut, or the sensors were junk, the lights wouldn't reset when I restarted the truck... I'm thinking that LSD is fucking up the truck somehow, but I don't know enough about it to say how... I will say that, the other day, I practically had to back into a snow bank for a parking spot at my apartment the other day, it was really deep snow, and I had to use 4wd to get into the spot, probably 2ft-ish of snow. When the lights aren't on, the truck is fine, I've never had an issue engaging 4wd, or anything. I'm stumped.

I would like to think that a sensor somewhere is getting wet and may not be covered properly..

Uh... well I definitely wouldn't take no for an answer from them. Talk to the shop manager. The other thing you need to do is get your phone out and take a video of it happening. As soon as you know you will need the lsd, start recording the dash. Sounds to me like faulty programming and its possible they need to reflash you trucks computer. And you wouldn't be the first to need a reflash for something like that. But the point is, they cant deny you if you have visual proof.

And to answer your question, no mine does not do that at all and I've used it in all kinds of crap weather. And I've never heard of anyone else's doing yhat from just using the lsd

huh.. well the issue is that it happens completely randomly. I cant replicate it, I've tried... BUT, if the truck does in fact store ABS codes, then they should be in there, correct?

I don't know that it stores the codes or not, but its all computer controlled, so if you turn it on and it jacks up the dash, something in the program is wrong. You could try one thing before hand, take your negative battery cable off the post for 30 minutes and reset the ecu. It could fix your problem. But I would just have my camera handy every time for the next few times you switch modes to see if you catch it.

I took it and got a car wash, where the under carriage got pressure washed or w/e the touchless washes do to the U/C. The problem has yet to return. I make sure that when I get in, and the roads are shitty, I have LSD enabled - and it still hasn't come back on. I'm thinking maybe from backing through the snowbank, the snow got clumped up in there, then melted when the rotors heated up, and refroze around the wires/sensors..

Hmmm, that could be. Glad to know just in case it happens to any of the rest of us.

They are wrong, abs codes can be stored in history as well as engine codes. I bet one of the rear speed sensors/ wires are corroded. Common problem. But u need a code to go any further

Mine stated doing this last week, does it when on wet roads period. I'm guessing wire exposed? When you say speed sensor, do you mean ABS sensor? I believe the speed sensor is on the tranny?

Wheel speed sensor is just another name for an ABS sensor.

You'd have to start by having the ABS codes read. As mentioned, codes DO get stored in the system, even if the fault goes inactive. Cheap, basic code readers will not read ABS codes though, so a professional grade scan tool should be used. Or the Techstream software and Mini-VCI cable that is available online for cheap, and install it on an old laptop.

I'll try to do that this weeks. It's really intermittent. Autozone couldn't do it since it's not throwing a check engine light

Did anyone ever figure out what was causing this. My 2016 with 23k miles just starting doing this. It has rained for weeks here and my parking spot at home is a mud pit. If my wheels spin in the mud I get the 4hi and 4lo flashing. The brake and abs lights are solid as well as the traction control light. I can cycle the ignition and they all reset except the and and traction control light but they reset after moving forward a bit.

Hi, Just had an issue with my 2008 tundra that is similar to this post. I stopped to let my mother out at walmart and the abs light came on,4wd hi light was flashing, and I think slip indicator light was also flashing. I pulled into a parking spot , shut off engine, and restarted. Everything reset except abs which went out after I started moving. I went to go to the store this morning and it did the same thing when abs brake check failed. I shut off and restarted two times but did same thing. Took the van to the store and when I came home and tried again, everything reset. I has been raining here for days, so I am assuming it is a water issue in abs, but am just puzzled why the other lights are flashing. Its sad that I have a 2008 tundra with 25000 miles and need a backup vehicle. If anyone has an answer to this dilemma, let me know!! Thanks, Walt

Remove the sensor from the hub, w a10mm.

Use soapy cloth and wipe down sensors - lots of muck on them. Reinsert and monitor

Mindful, don’t force to remove the sensor if not budging

Nissans carry this problem on their last generation.

I went to remove abs sensor on drivers front and it just broke into pieces. A new one ranged in price from $20 Amazon to over $200 at napa. I purchased the $20 one from amazon and it worked fine.
