Installed a Ring doorbell camera. Little piece of mind as to what goes on in front of my house at night.

I went with RING simply because of Amazon Prime day.

Come to find out there's a kind of a neighborhood watch thing with it. You can post of the video it took on the app on your phone for other RING owners to see it.

I readjusted our french doors that are on our back porch (faces west setting sun) cuz I would see a bit of light coming through and it started tearing up the bottom door seal/membrane. while doing it, I went ahead and got some 3" screws. 75% of the hinge screws going into the casing were literally about 1/2" long. the adjustment was simply tightening uppers on one side about 1/8" and same on lowers but loosening. closes easier and no light slipping in. now to get a new bottom seal to replace old one

I think the biggest issue with all these new doorbell and security cameras is the ‘security’ behind them since people are hacking into them more lately. Stick with a good known brand that puts effort into protecting the video feed. Obviously a doorbell or outside camera isn’t as sensitive data as an indoor camera would be but still.

My first concrete job. It’s a base for our trampoline that will be anchored down. I still have to put down a vegetation barrier and pea gravel in the middle. And it gave me an excuse to get some saint Augustine sod laid down too. This little harbor freight mixer would mix 2 80 pound bags at a time and it took 28 bags. Anything larger than this and I’ll just have a cement truck come out from now on! So sore!!!

    OK....I'll ask here.
I am looking to build some board and batten shutters on our house. Someone gave me the idea to use composite decking boards in whatever color I want. I really like the idea, especially since we plan on staying here for a long time and that would reduce my maintenance, time, etc... Problem I'm having is finding BLACK composite decking boards. These will be functioning shutters as well. I was going to put Trex composite boards on since they've had a good history from people I've known to have them and a lil bit of reasearch, but the darkest they offer is Winchester gray (a dark gray). The price was about $21/12' board. Pressure treated was about $17.75/12 board. I found one other high end brand, but they wanted about $40-$50/12' board!
Any feedback on if Trex or a similar brand offers black or if we are going about this as a terrible idea? Anything appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Trex is the most durable in the industry, but other composites have come a LONG way in the last few years.

I love Trex for the railings and "kit" that they offer for posts and railings (like the one below).. I really like Timbertech decking right now. I don't think any makers offer full on black. The heat absorption on that could be insane, and may have some fade issues moreso than other colors. There's a lot of people that think composite is hotter, so they may not offer black in case it actually does absorb more heat. I've never found them hotter than pressure treated, except for the fact that I can walk on composite in bare feet and wouldn't do that on pressure treated after the first year or two.

welcome aboard new guy haha. thanks for reply. i think thats the reason behind not seeing black is most cuz of heat and secondly because of possible fading. I know lots have come a long way and it seems like this may be a shot in the dark trying to find it. i'm mostly trying to find an alternative to me painting boards and all....not to mention, repainting in future. it may just come down to that anyway.

I know Certainteed makes a bunch of PVC trim boards and sheets, not sure if they make them in black though.

Thanks! Honestly, I'd go with a dark brown from Timbertech or Fiberon. It'll get you super close to black, and will last for 25-30 years. Painting pressure treated, especially the stuff coming out now, will lead to years of heartache and a ton of "I wish I would've..." Plus it will be cooler going with a dark gray or dark brown over black, unless you want to cook eggs on the deck. Haha.

Tape your joists, use one of the hidden (or face plug) fastening systems, and don't look back. It'll last decades and be an incredible addition to the house.

Edit: If you have time, newtechwood offers a black (or dark close). May take a while to be delivered or find a local lumberyard that carries, but definitely black.

It's going to be for shutters, so I don't have to worry about scorching our feet or anything. I'll check them out too. Thnx

We've had one of the Ring Doorbell Cams for a while. So far the only thing it's 'protected' us from is a Jehovah's Witness (and frankly it's worth it even for that LOL), but it's handy as hell.

So my crabgrass situation is beyond chemical warfare. This is what happens to the root system when the stuff gets to grow free for several years.
    92C02223-C7C0-45FF-BAE9-14136DA0AAF0.jpg

So I ordered an electric rototiller and will go to work on it soon enough. I dig up some of the edge of the yard today. It is just horrible. Although I did find the broken sprinkler head buried in a corner as well as a lot of concrete slag. Also decided over the weekend to pull up the jasmine and cats paw that was planted by the realtor before we bought the place.

Yeah that crab grass is some nasty stuff.

Funny enough my dad has it in his yard and it's actually really nice. Just needs lots of water to stay soft and green. But he has water rights and irrigates the crap out of it all year long.

The crabgrass sucks. The jasmine, unless it was planted in an undesirable place, unless you have a different jasmine, we only have two kinds here, is a great addition. The flowers look nice and the scent is heavenly.

The jasmine wasn't flowering and the vines coming off it were a PITA. I'm done with anything that has vines coming off it after having to deal with bougainvillea in my backyard.
