270 Degree Awnings

I am looking into freestanding 270 degree awnings to mount to my Leitner Designs rack system and was curious if any other forum members have any suggestions or photos of theirs? Thank you.

 

Mine is not free standing but fairly quick to setup and tear down. Bought it on a TW group buy a few years back for $270 to my door

 

Thanks Stig! I am looking for something like in the photos here. There are several to choose from. I know that there will not be a lot of people who have them due to price points of around 850-2000 dollars depending on what company and features you go with.

My counter argument is there are stereo systems that forum members get that cost the same or more or suspension set ups or whatever. So I know some people will think that is an insane amount for an awning but every build here is used by the individual owner for different things.

Anyways, I didn’t know if anyone here just happened to have one yet. I am guessing no one does and I will just read online reviews and YouTube videos. CVT has one out now and they are a few hours away from me, so that and Black Friday of 2020 may be my friend! Thanks.

 

I have the alu-cab. Loving it so far. Really just getting used to it as I’ve only deployed it a handful of times. It saved my butt camping yesterday as we woke up to a deluge. Was able to get the cooking done under it. I had to have a custom bracket made to mount it to my FWC so the cost aspect got a bit higher after paying for custom install. Know some rack systems are meant to mount these and it should be easier. Just relaying my experience. I see how taught it is in the ad. I’m gonna have to try to tighten it more next time I deploy.
In the pic I have the leg down because it was windy. It comes with one leg, you can get a kit with two more legs for extreme conditions.

If you get bored of sitting around under the awning, it looks like you could take the Tundra paragliding. Very cool.

 

As I stated above, this type of awning isn’t meant for everyone’s hobbies or lifestyles.

I just got the overland vehicle systems 270 awning. It can be free standing of or use the support legs that are supplied.

 

I also have the ovs 270 awning. The awning is freestanding but their description suggests to put down the legs in anything more than a breeze. I always use the legs but only stake it down when there's wind. So far it's survived 5mph winds with 10mph gusts..

 

I can't wait to get mine mounted now!!!!

 

Please post pics if able and when able. There are several now that seem very popular and I’m regretting getting buyers remorse if I get the wrong one!!!

 

It will be close to 6 months before I get mine mounted. I have to wait for my RLD canopy.

 

If you’re interested in DIY, this one looks light and cheap.

What bed rack do you have and how long (wide) is that awning where it mounts to the bed rack?

 

I’ve got the Darche 270 on my overland trailer. I’m fairly certain it is essentially the same as, or a slight premium version as the OVS. They are incredible and provide a ton of good shade, plus the extensions you can get can make a huge difference.

keep in mind that even the best quality “free standing” awnings are not capable of handling breezy conditions and will need additional support. We had hoped for free standing with the Darche (poles are a headache when dogs need to be leashed), but feel more comfortable generally dropping a few legs since it is so easy.

Looks like Eezi-Awn has a couple 270's. Not cheap but you can bet they are high quality.

Not to derail you but... Have you looked at the slumberjack Roadhouse? I really wanted a 23Zero 270 but couldn't bring myself to pay for it and happened upon the slumberjack. On a recent trip, I found myself in a few spots that were too cramped to open a 270 and was pretty happy with the tarp set up. I used it both with and without my truck if that helps. For the cost, you cant go wrong. The downside is it takes a few tries to get the set up "just right" and certainly isn't as easy as a permanently mounted awning. If you're set on the 270 give 23Zero a look.
