    Hello,

I soon hope to join all you guys with our Tundra’s! I was wondering if any of you guys have special ordered a Tundra before.

    1) how’s the whole process?
    2) does it save you money in any way?

by saving money I mean, I’ve seen some Pro’s on the lot for 57k or so but when I build the one i want(looks the same as the one at the dealers) it’s only around 54k. Does this still get marked up or is this the price?

    welcome
You will typically get charged a destination fee for transporting the truck to a dealership but with all things it can be “negotiated”

dealers aren’t too keen on discounting pros. I tried playing separate dealers against each other but they were not really willing to budge off the numbers they had. I got mine for msrp I would definitely not pay a dealer mark up.

also the ordering process typically take a while. I made friendly with a sales man, he checked with an inventory manager and let me know when they were allocated a pro. At that point I put a deposit and waited for it to come in, you can’t really pick and choose accessories but my build sheet already had everything I wanted. Hope this helps

From what I understand, Toyota does not “special order”. However, they did locate one for me that was scheduled for production, headed for a different dealer. They contacted the other dealer and had the truck redirected to my dealer. Took about 6 weeks for the truck to arrive.

X2. No special orders, although some buyers like to think that so it's a more special purchase to them. When you work with a dealer to get a specific model color trim and option combo, they just look in the upcoming shipments or what's available on their lot that's close.

X3. Was just about to go through that process. They don't really order but they find one like the one you want that is soon to be or was just produced. By default, almost every available option (bed liner, running boards, console safe, etc.) will be added by a regional distributor, so your dealer will have to catch it before it gets to that distributor so that the things that you don't want won't be added.

Yep. The nice thing about doing it this way is you at least know you get a vehicle that hasn't sat outside on a dealer lot and possibly test driven already. IMO if you buy a new vehicle it should be brand new with the only miles due to the build and delivery process.
