People who replaced their throttle body gasket to eliminate the issue, have you had any side effects

For years it's been known that replacing the mesh screen in the throttle body gasket usually gets rid of the whistle we sometimes here.

People who did it long ago, have you noticed any differences or adverse effects? Toyota had to have put it there for a reason I think, we're just not privy to what that was.

I replaced mine 10k miles ago and am still loving it. I believe it's there in case a big chunk of something becomes dislodged like the mass air flow sensor, chunk of air filter, etc. But I believe I've read that the sequoias dont have the screen.

The useless and annoying screen is what happens when some engineer puts way too high a risk factor in the fmea

Removed mine years ago and no issues to date. This is the only truck I’ve owned or worked on that had that screen at the throttle body.

Replaced mine with 500 miles on the truck. 15000 later and never an issue.

I cut mine out with a pair of snips and reinstalled. Every time I rode with the windows down I thought I had a vacuum leak.

That’s exactly what I was experiencing with an AFE dry drop in filter. Was gonna return the filter but now I’m thinking that I should do this first to see if it fixes it.

Just ordered the gasket from eBay. Figured I’d just get one instead of cutting up mine in case I have to put it back in for some reason

Barely notice a whistle when i drive. Windows down or windows up. I can hear it but it's not enough for me to tear into my air intake system to take it apart. I have bigger fish to fry in my world

With that said, I can't imagine any issues by removing it. Even long term issues.

Changed mine in the first couple thousand miles I owned the truck. I'm at 65,000 now and no issues.

That I could see. I just personally wouldn’t dig in specifically for a faint whistle. IMO. But if i was already in that far for something else and I wanted it out then more power to it.

I have several questions relating to MPG and warranties...

1:Can anyone tell me about their experience regarding their MPG after removing the charcoal filter?
2: Does removing the mesh screen throttle gasket void any warranties?
3: If after removing the charcoal filter, is it even worth a K&N drop in or just keep using the stock paper filter?

I just bought the 2020 crewmax SR5 and was already concerned about the MPG...does removing the Charcoal filter void a warranty?

This was one thing I couldn’t stand when I bought the truck. Sounds like a supercharger or a turbo or something and is really annoying.

bought the sequoia screen and replaced at less than 200 miles. About 4500 miles now and it’s been perfect. Simple cheap easy mod

I replaced mine. No issues but I still have a whistle at WOT. Not sure what is causing it.

    How nuts?

Not my vehicle(s), but this used to happen ALL.THE.TIME to my mom's country squire station wagon when I was a kid. I learned quite a few colorful new words that way.
And it used to happen ALL.THE.TIME to my ATV back in my college days. One industrious little bastard chewed all the way through an expensive K&N filter setup. I was literally cleaning crap out of a carb. I invented a few new colorful words that way!

Anyway, I'll deal with the whistle, and keep the mesh.

Removing the charcoal filter isn't going to do a thing for you. I don't remember if it was on here or on another site that they did a test on removing the charcoal filter and it made absolutely no difference in mpg or power.
I guess if something were to crawl in your air intake and into the engine it could void a warranty, but the Sequoias didn't come with it. That's what I bought was the Sequoia gasket. Not sure why the Tundra gets it, but the Sequoia doesn't when it's the same motor.
My truck came with the Toyota version of the K&N, I don't think it makes any difference at all. I wouldn't spend the money on it for any kind of performance gain.

PB and banana sandwich for breakfast for me! And, I'm still not sure why removing engineered parts is a good idea??? ECU controls the air/fuel mix, I'm somewhat hard of hearing, but never heard a whistle or whine that made me alter the original design. But that squirrel is begging to be shot in the head and pan fried.
