DSC07187-Pano.jpg I am prepping to install a set of the new Diode Dynamics SSC2 Pods to the truck in chase light/camp area light/backup light orientation. I was originally planning on using Yakima Mighty Mounts on my Yakima Roof Rack Cross bars in order to avoid putting holes in my canopy, but it has raised several potential issues. First, I don't think it would necessarily be a good idea to mount the lights upside-down with the "breathers" facing the weather. This orientation would provide the least amount of interference with the stuff I throw on top of the truck, but it looks like it might cast a massive shadow over the back. Now I am thinking about mounting them to the track that the roof rack uses; wouldn't solve the shadow issue, but would mount upright. My final option would be to bite the bullet and mount them straight to the canopy (ie drilling holes in my precious fiberglass). Has anyone done anything like this with any success? How did you guys run the wiring down inside, etc. I would love some suggestions or ideas.

I like figuring this stuff out... haha. I had to look up what a Mighty Mount was, but it looks like it has a vertical mount? What if you make a L-shaped bracket off the Mighty Mount. In my head this lets you mount the pods as if they were on a vertical (wall) position rather than upside down.

Heres a quick sketch to help better explain my thoughts...

That's not a bad idea at all. I had originally planned on making my own entirely custom mount (I work in a fabrication and machine shop) when I couldn't find an application that would work. Then I stumbled on the Mighty Mounts. My other concern is making sure I keep the lights lower/below the cross bar so as not to interfere with the stuff I have loaded up there all the time (Sea kayaks and whitewater kayaks mostly). Your idea is a super simple solution that I could make a lot faster than machining a chunk of aluminum down to a complex shape. Thanks man!

Nice! Let me know how it goes, I'm interested in seeing what you end up doing. Gotta be nice to have machining tools available
