I drove a coworkers Camaro last year and loved it. The ability to switch the ride firmness, steering weight, throttle response, and exhaust note make it way more practical for daily driving and longer hauls. I loved it. Lots of bang for the buck in my opinion.
However, it’s low for winter. I don’t see snow tires lasting a long time on that power, but depending on your area / roads / needs it could be doable. My coworker mentioned that his stock tires spun like plastic on cold mornings even when no snow or ice was around FYI.

i own a 2016 Challenger RT. That platform is what you want if you want a 2 door muscle car but you need to put someone in the back in a pinch or enjoy extended road trips. The trade off is it’s the heaviest one. So if you want to be competitive with the other V8s you need the 6.4. I’m not broken up over other stuff in the class having a few 10ths on me though.

According to a guy in a car forum I'm on, the perfect vehicle in North America right now would be a Barra-swapped Challenger.

I like the 2SS with the tan interior

Recaro seats, paddle shifter, 10 speed automatic, suspension package, a bit pricey but what’s not to love about a newer Camaro.
I can see my self buying a used one $52Gs with all the options I wanted, is a stretch for me.
For now I have to finish my pro street project. Great Thread !

If I bought a car like this, I wouldn't be driving it in winter or on a track and I doubt I'd take it on many long trips. Based on that, I would go with an LT1 with the V8, 6 speed manual and nothing else for $34k USD.

I was tempted to go that route but no magnetic ride control.

Speaking of a beast, during the first gen z period, Chevy made the beast engine for the iroc series, and it was an option for camaro in 67, 68, and 69. The DZ 302 cubic inch. Not many of them around anymore though.

To answer your question, the Camaro whether new or used will not be good in snow or ice, no matter what tires you place on it. Additionally you will lose largely on resale as you own it. If you are in love with the lines, and plan it as an optional vehicle in the garage for fun days and evenings, you know your budget and vehicle tolerance better than any of us. I've enjoyed vehicle ownership of many types, and sought an additional ride a few years ago. I looked at several 911 variants, GTR, and couldn't get past the GSF. The Lexus reliability, engineering, and overall ride, sound and price is tough to beat as a package. And you won't lose your ass if you change your mind sooner or later after owning it. I bought my 2016 new as a leftover in 2017. Haven't regretted a single day since.

It s nice that you have a special car that you are proud of. Good for you. Concerning driving a camaro in the rain; I don t buy what you are selling. Maybe if you drive like a maniac, or an idiot in the rain ice or snow, something s not good, but in that case, it s not the car that s bad; it s the driver. And to say, in a blanket statement, "it s no good", is retarded. Why don t you explain what you mean?

Perhaps you should re-read my post slower than you did previously, as the word "Rain" is non existent. As to the "Retarded" point, I suggest you look in the mirror and see how that applies or not?

I think you edited your post, but what ever dude. I really don t care. If you care to explain your reasoning then please do, but any fool knows if you romp on it, or do stupid shyt in the ice or snow, or, RAIN, in a rear wheel drive muscle car, bad things are most likely going to happen. Maybe that s what you meant. I doubt it though. I think you just wanted to dis the camaro, and tout your lexus turdmobile.

After researching a little more, and letting some time pass, I decided on an LT1 instead of an SS. With the options I chose it s almost 9k cheaper:D and I still get the same engine and drive train.

I know this is a camaro based thread, but have you looked into a mustang GT? It's a touch (literally like a 10th or two) faster, an absolutely wicked, top end peak power band motor, a very comfortable ride, magnaride suspension, dual mode exhaust, and the handling is on par with the camaro. YOU CAN SEE OUT OF IT just fine. You have a wicked 10 speed automatic available if you aren't into rowing the gears. It's a phenomenal car for the money. I believe the same package in the mustang is a bit cheaper as well.

I had a 16 GT with performance package for three years, and drove the piss out of it every chance I got. It was my commuter for 70 miles round trip, rain or shine, hot or cold. I had an 07 Tacoma to back it up for snow, but I put 55k miles on that mustang and enjoyed every second of it. I took it on trips as long as 3 hours multiple times and was perfectly comfortable. Alas, the city potholes were beating me (and my wheels) up, and my girls are both well over 5 feet tall now, and I was tired of rowing through the gears downtown in the stop and go traffic. Plus after doing 150mph I felt like my time behind the wheel of that beast had run its course, which is how I ended up here.

Whatever you get, I wish you happiness behind the wheel.

I like the looks and the performance isn't bad, but the reliability is crap and it only gets worse as they age.

If I wanted a true muscle car it would be an old 1968 to 1972 GM A body that I could modernize and update.

*2010-on. I bought a 2010 Camaro brand new and every time I switched lanes or had to back up Id say ‘hope nothings there, here we go..’ Worst blind spot ive ever experienced, cramped as hell, car was underwhelming. Fun to zip to and from work in and that was about it. Sold it in a year and a half.
I had a 1990 Camaro RS in high school, ugly af but that thing was awesome:D

I have an old 1969 Corvette. I have modernized to make it as competitive on track as possible. Sorry, IMHO, the new Corvettes are still superior on track. They have a modern suspension and computers that help with driver error.

I appreciate your input. First, I have to ask, where do you drive 150 mph? I m a defensive driver, and one of the predominate thoughts i live with every time I get behind the wheel is some oncoming joker driving too fast unable to control his vehicle, and smashing me. Especially at night on a two lane road at highway speeds. As it is, I try not drive on those type of roads at night. 150 mph? I hope it s on a track. That being said, I have looked at the Mustang, and the devs have created a beautiful design, though mine is a strictly personal preference. I grew up around sbc's, and have rebuilt several in my life time, so I guess Im partial to what I know. If I would have grown up around Fords it would probably be different, but Chevy it is.

I would only get a new Camaro as a track toy, they (and the Mustangs) are about the best priced options you can have under $100k (and will still outrun many sports costing more than that). As a daily driver or even weekend car I’d want something less bulky and more fun on the road. The V8 versions are so overpowered they’re going to be boring to drive 90% of the time.

When you said, "car was underwhelming", all I could think of is a Tremic 6 speed tranny behind a c5 corvette engine, which comes in the 2020 camaro. It s hard to picture that as underwhelming. Also, the blind spots have been addressed, although it s pretty apparent that Chevy turned an obvious deficiency into profit by introducing active safety tech.

I am referencing daily driven street cars... good old fashioned muscle cars with improved suspensions, brakes, tires, etc. - not track toys. I do agree that most modern high performance cars are well suited to the role of track toy, much better than the old versions.

So, I'm confused...why would I own a Camaro if I can't drive like a maniac or Idiot? There is no fun in that.

You can get a 6 speed manual in any Camaro trim. Not sure about the Mustang; I assume so but I know they dropped the manual for certain trims/ versions (e.g. the new GT350). New Corvette can be had with a 7 speed manual.

OP, the new Camaro LS3 through LS6 is not like an old school 283 - 454 but I think you know that
I’m particularly fond of them too.
You have the basic parts you can change out when needed, but you need a computer to plug in to tune it. I have buddy’s that do it all the time to there new Camaro’s.
I think a base model and LS3 with automatic or stick would be a good choice. You can upgrade certain aspects of the car as you go.
    Good luck again.
