Driver Side Door Wont Unlock From KeyFob

Whenever I try and unlock my truck from my key fob, all the other doors unlock but my driver door doesn't. Same thing with locking as all the other doors locked besides the driver side door. Has anyone else had this problem and it something I could fix or would I need to take it to a shop?

Does your driver door lock/unlock with the button on the door? If not, sounds like the actuator for your driver door. If so, it's beyond my knowledge level.

no the only thing that unlocks it is the actual key, so I guess its the actuator

Reach out to @Roman for a part# and quote for the actuator. @2020Platinum has videos of how to take just about everything apart - he might have something that covers the door, at least on newer models. That may be enough guidance for you to get into yours. You can then replace it yourself and save the labor costs. Not to mention the feeling when you have fixed something yourself!

If it's the actuator, you shouldn't hear the beep when you press the lock button on your remote.

Even if the other door actuators are working?

It sounds like your cable may have come loose… Watch my video on how to take the door panel off and apart, check the cable that goes to the lock (check the side that goes into door, not where it engages lock on door)..,I’ve actually had mine pop off and it caused the same exact problem… I was able to pop it back into place and haven’t had a issue since, hope it helps!

Yes, if any of the doors won't lock, you won't hear the beep. I've already had one replaced, have one totally out, and a third going out. I'm so used to manually locking my damn doors now that I'll probably keep doing it even after I get them fixed.

This is common with Toyota’s unfortunately. Some will replace just the motor. All four of my actuators on my 4runner went out within three weeks of each other. Dealership will charge exorbitant amounts (my quote was $460).I ordered the aftermarket brand on Amazon and replaces them all. Cost was $45 each actuator.

Is your 2019 already out of warranty?

EDIT: Sorry, I reread and so that your were talking about your 4Runner! Not enough caffeine yet!

What others said. Actuator is a common problem with our doors. Save yourself some $$$ and just replace the motor and not the whole assembly. Only like $8 on Amazon. I got lucky on mine and when I removed the door panel I found that the plug had just come undone, didn’t even have to replace the motor.

I am having the same issue, however I did replace the actuator. The actuator fires to lock just not unlock. Both with the key fob and the door switch work the same, i.e. can not unlock driver door. I took the whole door apart again and tested both lock and unlock wires to the actuator and on the lock wire had power when locking the door. The unlock does not. No power to the unlock cable. I followed the cable the the floor kickplate and it looks fine. All the other doors work. Can someone tell me if there is an unlock relay for the drivers door specifically. It would make since as when you press unlock on the fob only the driver side unlock first then on second press the other doors unlock?

Isnt there a setting via the radio to enable all doors to be unlocked via fob?

Yes there is a setting just tried it. Now all the doors except the front unlock on one click, not two. Lol. However I did find that there is a d-dr unlock relay. It appears to be above the driver side interior fuse box. But when I went to the dealer they couldn't find the part. Guess I have to pull the fuse box to see what is what

Thanks but I already replace the actuator. The actuator is not getting power in the unlock wire. Hence I am looking to replace the drivers unlock relay

My bad, I misread that earlier. Any chance you have an aftermarket alarm installed?

I am curious if anyone has resolved this issue with the driver door not unlocking? I, like others, have replaced the actuator and have determined that the actuator is not the problem. I confirmed this by paying the stupid tax at the dealer, then they wanted a blank check to keep trouble shooting this issue. I have also joined the TIS and paid to download the wiring diagrams and "if/then" statements trouble shooting the issue. I have landed at having to pull out the main body ecu (no relay in the system that I have found) to test the pin fit and continuity of the designated pins as outlined in the TIS. I am hoping someone else has resolved this issue without having to go as far as removing the main body ecu and/or having to replace it. As my issue was intermittent at first, (i.e. quit working for a couple days, then worked for a few weeks, and ran through this cycle a few times before it completely quit working) it does not seem that an ecu would be the culprit as I would think I would have more issues than just the door not unlocking. Below is a short list of symptoms and what has been done so far.

    Symptoms:
-Driver door will not unlock using the key fob nor the unlock switch on driver or passenger door.
-On first push of unlock button on key fob, there is no chime or "beep", no unlocking of door, but the courtesy lights on interior and exterior come on.
-On second push of the unlock button on the key fob, all other doors unlock and there is a beep.
-All doors Lock from the fob, door switches, and when truck is put in gear.
-Driver door does not unlock when truck is put in park.

    Measures taken thus far:
-Removed driver door actuator and tested manually. Functioned properly
-Replaced driver door actuator anyway with OEM replacement part. NO change in the symptoms
-Tested continuity from actuator to connections in kick plate, then to pins on front side of main body ecu. All checked out
-Took truck to dealer and paid the initial diagnostic fee to confirm my findings. They confirmed and did not have a resolution and wanted an estimated $800 more to continue diagnostics. I declined as I didn't to put $1,100 into them trying to find the electrical demon....
-Downloaded TIS diagrams and repair process for this issue
-The TIS process follows what I have done thus far up to the point of testing the connections on back of main body ecu which requires removing it in order to gain access to connections.

    Modifications to truck:
-I did the 2018 Headlamp and fog lamp swap to have all LED's, using contacts and suppliers from this forum

Thank you to anyone with any solutions, ideas or suggestions.

So I am having similar issues, but it's not just the drivers for that I am having issues with. Some times it is the drivers door and sometimes it is the front passengers door. But when they won't lock or unlock with the remote, they also won't lock or unlock with the button in the truck. I'm at a loss of what to do.:confused:

Anyone ever figure this out? I am having the same issue with the unlock - the actuator is good but will not unlock.

I replaced the actuator today to confirm that wasn’t the issue. Hopefully can find and replace a relay somewhere else.

Thanks, confirmed it was not a key issue. The drivers door with not unlock from the inside either. All the other doors lock/unlock. The fob locks the drivers door, but somehow the unlock side must not have power.

I replaced the actuator, did not fix the problem. So I figure it is something electrical.

I'm having same issue. Haven't had time to trouble shoot fully but my plans are to check for power at actuator. Going to do some research on part diagram some how to see how many wires actuator has then go from there. Gotta figure out how the darn thing works before I can fix. I'll post any findings so as to pay it forward. Forums like these have helped me tons in the past.

So I ended up testing voltage at the wiring harness into the door actuator. I've got voltage when it locks, but no voltage when unlocking. Going to try and work the problem down the line. See below for how to trouble shoot.

If you have a multimeter you can verify the issue directly. The Wire plug connecting to the actuator has 2 large pins at the top, these are your power pins. If you take a multimeter and set it to DC current. Touch the 2 probes to the 2 larger pins and press lock and then unlock. When you press lock you will see a 12 volt reading (positive or negative does not matter). Then when you press Unlock you should see another 12 volt reading (opposite of your first reading).
If you get the voltage reading when you press both Lock and Unlock the issue is a bad actuator.
If you do not get a 12 volt reading on either of the presses then the problem is further up in your vehicle (ecu, bcm, wire harness, fuse....).
