    Hi All,

I am Chris and new to the Forum and a new 2018 Toyota Tundra Crewmax Limited owner. I was unable to find a limited with the TRD off-road package and figured I would slowly upgrade it like I did my old 99 Land Rover Discovery, but I had a question about warranty. Does installing after market equipment void any warranty? I plan the following:

    Bed Cover
    Running boards or sliders
    Skid plates
    Sway bars
    Spray on bed liner
    TRD Decals
    TRD Engine intake
    Center Console Gun safe

Thoughts and anything else I should do?

Welcome aboard from Oregon! Congratulations on your new truck, I know how exciting it is.
After market mods only affect the altered system or “area” warranty. Of the items you listed most are cosmetic or similar. The only thing that could impact any warranty is possibly the TRD air intake. Highly unlikely to be any issue, but if you seriously feel it might be a concern, have the dealership install it. Then it’s covered.

Actually depends on the dealer when i bought my 18 i wanted to get it lifted a short time later and they said it would void my warranty even if they installed it. It all comes down to the dealer some are more accepting of mods some not so much.

Dealers still get paid for warranty work, it’s just that Toyota’s reimbursed hourly rate is lower than what you pay. I’ve been lucky and had dealers argue with Toyota for me to get stuff covered that might have been the fault of aftermarket parts. Like ac91 said, depends on dealer. If you can tell the dealer doesn’t want to hear your side, id go to a different one.

the short answer to warranty questions is this: "Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act"

Do a search on it. In a nut shell, the warranty provider has the burden to PROVE that a modification directly caused a failure. Example. You install a new intake system and your tailgate falls off going down the highway. Nope, you're covered, your warranty isn't "Void"

Dealers always scare people into "you'll void your warranty" situations. it's all bullshit.

Nothing will void the entire vehicle warranty as a whole. The way a warranty works is say you install the remote start incorrectly and fry your truck electrical system...that would not be covered under warranty. But if your exhaust falls off they cant possibly say that was caused by your remote start. If you install aftermarket shocks and your lower control arm fails or some other suspension component fails, they wont cover it because theyll say the shocks you installed contributed to the failure. However if you install shocks and your engine craps out, theres no way they can say the shocks had something to do with it. Get it?

In order for anything to void a warranty; said part / install must be proven that, that part and or install voided said item

It was kinda disappointing to learn that the ‘Magnuson’ of Magnuson-Moss Act has nothing to do with the supercharger. :notsure:

If you want some performance look into a DAP tune. It will void the warranty if they find it. But you can uninstall the tune if you choose the remote tune. I uninstall everytime I visit the dealer. Much better investment than TRD intake. Believe there a Black Friday special DAP is running right now.

Dealerships are a***. I just had a dealer tell me your cylinder misfired because of bad gas and because bad gas they will void warranty if it happens next time.without even proving that it was actually bad gas and they only recommend getting gas from Sunoco or Exon When i told them I've got gas from Coastco, they said "i dont know about them". I said well the manual only recommends the octane level and not the brand's unless you invented that right now and I said this infront of other customer who were waiting.

Dealerships are hit and miss some will go above and beyond for their customers others will try to screw you over every chance they get.

So....all this being said...does deleting the stock charcoal filter void a warranty? Your thought? How about removing/replacing the throttle body gasket with the mesh screen?

I don’t think any techs would notice or care if they did. But like everything else, you take you chances doing any modifications.
