How does this help "wear and tear"? This only heats the cab, it is not a block heater, you are still starting a freezing cold engine that you will have to idle and wait for to reach operating temperature.

You'd buy this package without a block heater? Wat? Of course you'd get a block heater if your buying this.

Trucks already come with block heaters in Canada. This is just a gimmick. They should have offered a heated steering wheel instead.

Please post up what you think. I'm really curious how well that cabin heater does.

So to be clear, block heaters are standard in Canada but the pricing matrix shows cost with or without a block heater. It's about $800 CAD installed if you have the block heater already.

Assuming you DO NOT have a block heater, the entire Comfort+ package adds a block heater, battery trickle charger, in-cabin heater and a bluetooth controller so you can manage the system.

With the entire system installed, you plug in your truck and the engine block heater will run plus the battery will trickle charge. Then, depending on the settings you choose in the app, the cabin heater comes on if the temps fall into a certain range. Since that cabin heater is 12 volt, the charger ensures the battery doesn't go down.

Other than the standard wear/tear prevention of a block heater, the purpose of the system is more about in-cabin comfort.

Lifelong Alaskan here, and for the mother effing life of me don’t understand why Toyota doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel. Especially on vehicles like my Platinum when they already offer heated / cooled seats.

That's the only feature my SR5 is missing, in my opinion. When it's -20C or colder, I can let the truck warm up for 15 minutes and drive with the blower on max speed, max heat and my hands (in my gloves) are still frozen when I get to work. (My feet, too, but that's an issue in every vehicle I've ever driven.)

Agreed. Am super happy to be closing on our new house next week so I can park in a garage again...... since the wife took up my garage spot when she moved in a couple years ago.

On a similar note, on my 2010 Rock Warrior, my #1 complaint on that truck was that damn aluminum shift knob. Stayed ice cold FOREVER.

Really want heated steering wheel, seats, and shift knob to be an option!

Some Southern Ontario cars don't have block heaters, apparently mine doesn't have it.

Yea, I found that out when I was inquiring about a 2020 Army Green (wife thought color matching cars is too weird), dealer said cause it was originally send to North Bay, it had block heater, but southern Ontario area bound vehicles don't have them, cause I also inquire about adding the comfort + .

If you go on Toyota's site and enter a southern Ontario postal code, you can see a block heater is $800 something option.

It shows up as a $500 option in Alberta.

I was looking at aftermarket, but they are 12volt with a cord. Not sure how that works when parallel parking or backing up a trailer, i would lose my shit trying to unwind the cord.
My mind is wandering to a custom set up. 12volt heated snowmobile grips and some kind of milwaukee battery to power it, so long as an airbag doesnt turn the battery into a face missile.

Our Steering wheels have power inside them right? Would it be possible to tap into one of the leads that powers that onboard radio controls, or info display? Seems like that should be possible if the wire gauge and fuse is sufficient for the draw of the steering wheel heater.

I like this a lot! My truck sits a lot during the week now that I work from home, still I'd like it to be warm inside for quick runs I make, and like the idea of it constantly maintaining a battery charge. Anyone know if this kit will make it's way to the U.S?

They do. But you’ll need to buy a land cruiser to get it. Or purchase the LC steering wheel and swap it in.

Didn’t dig to deep on this, but would be curious what the trickle charger output specs are. Does it have a AGM setting? Kill two birds with one stone for some people on here.

I think these ones suppose have a plug integrated into the bumper or something, not sure, but yea, its pricey, bed steps is like $500 too, while you can get exact same thing for $250.

Man, even tires are cheaper in Alberta, my buddy actually got a set of Cooper's in 35x12.5r18 shipped from Edmonton to Toronto, and it was cheaper than buying them local.

Heaters draw a lot higher current than control wires can typically handle. I don't know of anything in the steering wheel that would have large enough wires to safely power any kind of heater strip going around the wheel. If anyone wants to experiment with this, make sure your fuses are sized to protect the smallest wires or you'll fry some wires.

completely agree. If I recall correctly, heater wire for keeping gutters from freezing runs about 5 watts per foot, and is certainly warm enough to feel on a cold day. Figure 5 foot circumference on the wheel, so 25 watts, makes for about 2 amp draw? I'd want at least 16 gauge wire to allow for a higher draw and a bit of safety margin.

Anyone know what the control wires measure?

The control wires are likely 18-20 ga.

Or maybe you can buy a bunch of hand warmers (chemical type) and wrap your steering wheel every night!:boink:
