They are a pain in the rear. Give it a good pop with your palm to make sure that top clip is seated into the hole.

Ya, them things are a bugger. They're kind of trial-and-error. The 2nd Gen ones seem to go in at an inboard toward outward 45 degree angle. Also, it helps to have removed the long rocker panel section as seen at the bottom of the second picture. That will give you some additional wiggle room of the kick panel.

Okay, the door seal/gasket in the pictures look a little different than what I'm remembering off the top of my head of my truck. So I thought I'd put in sort of a disclaimer. :)

I found the trim panel that connects to it from the floor to be a little bit of a pain to get on too.

for the kick panel I feel like I have beat on that thing and just can’t get that white clip to seat. It’s really annoying my OCD to not get that panel completely closed!

I had better luck putting the clip in the hole then sliding the panel over the clip.

I seem to have lost the threaded nut that retains this kick panel against the carpet, anyone have a part number for this?

EDIT: I believe it is this KICK PANEL FRONT CLIP - TOYOTA (90467-06155)

Mine is exactly the same and the plastic that holds the clip is damaged now so I can't put another clip in it. I'm considering putting a nutplate in there and drilling a hole through the kick panel because that clip is $hit.

    That certainly looks like it..
It screws off but pushes on.

Most of the time when I take panel off, the lower clip stays in the truck body.
I have to pull it and reset it in the panel..
