I've been running an old 1990 Jayco Sportster pop-up camper in my 04 tacoma, and as rad as it has been we've decided to go for a '16 Tundra to better move it around, as we realized we have never really taken it on any crazy jeep roads that require the shorter wheelbase/smaller body. We're gonna have to build a small wood frame for underneath the camper as it is a camper made for smaller trucks so the wings won't clear the bedrails currently. Should be great though! I have a feeling we'll get a newer four wheel camper soon though, mostly to have it more winter mission friendly for ski trips. The Jayco's lift posts are outside the canvas by design so I have a feeling snow and ice won't go over so well with it. haha

Here's a pic of the camper on the taco a few weeks ago.

I grew up camping in Texas in a '80s navy blue tent and this black tent definitely cools faster than that one did! I was a bit hesitant to buy black when the dealer mentioned it was coming out but decided to take a chance...mostly because it looks badass. We honestly don't spend a bunch of time in the tent during the day, but have camped in it twice this summer in Texas (Austin and Corpus Christi). Day temps in excess of 95 and night temps in the mid to low-80s. We run a little fan inside the tent and it has windows on all sides so lots of air movement - as long as there is a breeze of course. It got cool enough each night for my wife and daughter to pull their blankets on. Definitely no regrets!

I used to camp with some guys who would just do a sleeping bag on a tarp on the ground, even in winter.

I did my normal hammock set up two weeks ago, but the wind was strong and the skunk funk was to the point where I thought they were right next to me. So I toted my blankets into my truck and reclined the seat, it wasn’t bad

Depends on where you are at, dry desert? Cold mountains? Midwest or south humidity with 1000 bugs? ...what will work and allow you to get some rest and actually enjoy time away. Do I wanna sleep on the ground on purpose? Nah

Is your CM 2WD or 4WD? I'm debating trading in my 2018 SR5 2WD for a 2021 SR5 TSS but can't decide if the 4WD is worth the extra $4k.

If you ever (want to) camp outside of developed campgrounds, it’s nice to have. Increased options and resale value.

Pic from Western North Carolina over the weekend. Aliner weighs about 1300 lbs dry and has most of the amenities the old lady needs: a/c, heat, beer fridge, big bed, stove.

I like the DFW area. I'm up there for work every couple of months. I'd like to do some camping up there. My mom lives up there and she tells me there are great places to camp.

What is you setup on the CM?

If you like campground camping there are plenty around the metroplex, and quite a few lakes you can camp around too!

I have @Caliraisedled bed rack and 23Zero RTT. I love the setup but I think I might be moving the tent to an offorad trailer here soon. I like the idea of setting up camp and being able to leave without breaking it all down.
