Did backyard work today. Installed two motion activated solar lights yesterday, while I replaced the main backyard light that was literally hanging by the wires that powered it. Also planted some bamboo. Was thinking of a palm tree, but I didn’t want to deal with a 20-40 foot tree later on. I just wanted some privacy from the apartment building behind my house. If this one take to the shitty dirt and doesn’t die in a month, I’ll plant another one.

    The light situation.

before the bamboo. Used to be bougainvillea in that spot. Had to fight the old roots digging the hole.

it should grow 5 feet in the next year.

lights when the sun went down. The middle one is a dusk to dawn light, which I didn’t want, but very adjustable which I did want.

Be careful with planting bamboo in an open planter. You may want to put a root battier around where you want it to stay.

Thanks for the tip. Honestly I'll be happy if it just doesn't die. The dirt back there is horrible. It's a clay soil type. Ultimate goal is to cover the back wall for some privacy, if the bamboo lives and spreads out along that wall I'd be cool with it.

I don't know if it is exactly a home improvement but it sure is going to make washing the cars a little easier :)

Looking for opinions on some flooring. This is a bonus area above our garage that has a half bath. It's about 600 square feet. These are some old pics to show open area. It doesn't get used alot....yet. I have 3 young kids, so they'll be using it more than me I'm sure when they're older. It got damaged in Hurricane Laura and more again in Hurricane Delta. It's wood laminate flooring that has the underpad built into it. I'm considering going with vinyl laminate flooring to help with spills and possibly even upkeep/maintenance. Any suggestions/ideas. I'll do this one myself as well since it's not that difficult to do honestly.

Looking east from about middle of room. (half bath on left, attic access on right, and stairway in middle.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

That interlocking vinyl flooring from home depot is pretty great. I put it in the apartment above the garage that 2 large dogs live in full time. In almost 1 year the flooring has held up great. Its pricey..I think I spent $2k for ~800sq ft but its been worth it

did you install yourself? I'm estimating it to cost between 2 and 3 bucks a square. and i can even keep the stuff that's still good of about 300 sqft and sell that to someone redoing a room for about 300 bucks...just some beer money. lol

Yes did it myself and I would not consider myself "handy". Took me a weekend. And a lot of that time was due to the amount of cutting I needed to do around the kitchen cabinets and in the bathroom.

    Building is 32x48x14 = $24K
    Site prep/Backfill = $8K
    Cement slab = $7K
Total will be just shy of $40K

That is hiring out for everything and my site needed 4 days of bulldozer work at more than $1K/day. If you find an area that needs minimal site prep you can build this for around $32K

Installed another camera. Question, I want to fill this hole. Anything recommended? Something Easy to use. Would caulking work or should it be something with more of a rubbery texture?

Paintable caulk...or use a small scrap trim piece to make it look "factory sealed."
