    Howdy Folks,
I am working on my 2006 DC today and trying to install a Sony XAV-AXV1000 (which others have successfully done in this truck). I pulled the crappy aftermarket Kenwood and thought the install should be simple. The MIC and Antennae connection is straightforward but the main line doesn't fit... maybe it needs an adapter? It appears to be nearly the same pin structure but reversed. So, that if I was able to trim the locking tab off the plug and flip it over, it might fit the pins correctly. I would love some insight into how to make this work. The connector is in my hand and the old unit is on-top (finger is pointing to it).
    Any insights?
    Thank you so much!

Are you trying to take the harness that plugged into the back of the kenwood and plug it into your new sony unit? The sony should have its own new harness that would need to be wired in place of the old kenwood harness.

There's a chance you can get the harness to plug in with some trimming, but you would still need to make sure the harnesses were pinned the same/that all the wires are in the same spot. For example, if kenwood uses power for the top left wire and sony uses ground, plugging that kenwood harness would likely kill your new sony.

Ah, yes, just saw the Sony harness under some packing material in the box. Makes sense.

Do I just splice the wires of the Sony harness w/ the same color wire pulled from the existing harness? Strip them, twist, then electrical tape?

You got it! Find the red coming out the old harness and attach the red sony wire to the same wire coming out of the factory wiring and so on for all the others. Would recommend you disconnect the battery cable under the hood, do 1 wire at a time so you don't lose track of whats what, and use some sort of crimp connector or even a twist connector rather than just twisting and taping. Twist and tape will get it working for sure but is a recipe for headache down the line if something works its way loose.
