What gas mileage do you get?

So you coasted home downhill from the gas station right after you filled up the tank and reset your MPG counter?

 

Lol ....just aboutI was trying to get a video of it turning over to 100k but ya I had just filled up a few minutes before wasn’t till I finish recording I saw the great mileage. Screen shot for my Chevy friend that always bragging about his great gas mileage.
To be honest I rather have my tundra over his Chevy and day even if it cost me a bit more to run. Been a Chevy guy all my life till this Tundra!!

 

It was between this and a 6.2 Silverado for me. I went with the Tundra because of the reliability and the ease of self-maintenance. Also, I’ve spent too much time at the GM trucks forum to want to risk the common issues I’ve seen there.

The Tundra is cheaper, has better resale value, and has a lower 5-year cost to own, despite getting a few less MPG.

 

100% agree ... outdated as it is it’s still probably the most unrated Truck In the industry. It’s not perfect but what is??
My last two Chevy’s were disappointing And got to know the service manager way to well. Personally think Chevy’s not what it used to be.

 

You can certainly get a decent domestic that doesn't give you too much trouble but it's definitely a lower probability than with a Tundra.

 

Ya for sure there’s lots of good domestics. I have had many over the Last years 30 years most were pretty reliable. Yet I can’t remember any driving like it was new after 4 years with over 100k like this tundra. Hopefully it will be as reliable as they say they are time will tell.

 

My brother bought a Chevy because that's what he's familiar with at work and because I think he got scared off by all the talk about "how bad Tundra fuel economy is".

 

A few months ago I determined that my torque converter is not healthy so 99% of my driving locally is done in S-4, top gears are meant for long distance cruising at speed. The truck is more responsive... be forewarned that S-4 is probably going to have you reaching and holding higher velocities than you might be accustomed to... so be careful. My mpgs may take a hit driving as I do, but it's worth it to me - and it's more fun.

We just got back from a road trip to KS, a little over 600 miles each way with a majority of it 70-75 mph speed limits. I found there is a penalty for every mph over 70, and it seems to get increasingly steeper for each mph as the speed goes up... I drove like an old man and set it right at the limit on the 75 zones, and 2-5 over in the 70 or under zones. Wound up with 17.8 going up, and 17.6 coming back. Truck just broke 4k miles, so it will likely gain a little as it gets a few more miles on it. Glad I have the bigger tank, it would just be annoying with only 26 gals.

Our 4Runner only does about 2 mpg better on the highway, so fuel mileage has obviously not been a big concern with what we park in the driveway. Hell, I've had 4 Jeeps, and 3 of those had the 4.0 I6! I guess I'm just a glutton for punishment when it comes to fuel inefficient vehicles. lol

At least I get the ability to from the shit mileage in the Tundra!

 

The worst I’ve seen was 8.9, the best was 19.6. Just depends on how I drive.

 

I drive 281 to deer lease often. Never fails I go down just as a front is in OK and back after it passes. I have decided that Tundras are not aerodynamic. Even a 10 - 15 mph wind can decrease or increase mpgs by 1 to 2.

 

Sport+ +4 on my pedal commander if that answers your question...

 

I get 12MPG with 80% highway and 20% city. I was averaging 15MPG for the same drive before I upgraded to 35" tires. The change caused a ~20% drop in fuel efficiency, but well worth it.

 

12.5 with a 3" lift and 34's

 

15 on a good day, but is MPG really what you get a tundra for

 

99+ going downhill

 

Has anyone found any mpg gains by removing the valve stem caps? My thinking is reduced rotating weight should help?

Maybe ditch the hub center caps as well.

Another thought I had was I should just move somewhere and work somewhere that has the best road system for mpg. I'm thinking perfectly flat roads with trees to shelter from the wind, good road surface, and no stop lights, turns or intersections. Then I just have to find the optimum speed to travel before getting some real good mpgs.

If I can't make that happen I'll just engine swap the 5.7 for a 4 banger. Anyone done an engine swap on a tundra?

 

All I know is that my tundra gets much better mileage than my RX7

 

I don't even look at it. Its a truck. I just went from a 2013 with the 4.6, lift, and 34's to the 2020 and moved everything over. Too much fun driving it to worry about fuel economy.

 

In a new 2021 1794 4x4, getting 17.7--18.1mpg. Although,, I am old and just going to town and such things,,,

Thread is interesting if not comical The reason I watch the mpg is CHANGE. By knowing what it reports during different types of driving, I may find out issues sooner rather than later. I found I had a brake dragging in my old 4Runner that way. GPM decreased with normal use on a trip. Never smelled it on the trip but I took a 5 mpg hit. So I started hunting the cause. For me the number isn't that important, but knowing why it changes is.

Don't know why, but I get 16.7 mpg average now that I sound dead my cab. Use to be 13 or 15.2 most
