Snowy State Tundras...Best Tires in the Snow

I wasn't too impressed with Ridge Grapplers in the snow, just got Toyo at3's installed a few weeks back. We'll see how these do this winter, at least they're snow rated.

 

Those were my second choice solely on the 3 peak rating they had this year..those look great sir

 

I have had the ridge grappler for 2 winters. It’s ok in deep snow, but completely sucks on ice. They put me in the ditch once before too.

I’ve had KO2s before with no issues, but it was in hotter areas. Now that I live in upstate NY where we get several feet of snow at once, I’m thinking of going back to the KO2s. I see them on a lot of trucks in this area.

They have done well in snow, ice, sand and pavement. Ill be buying them again when I jump to 37s.
Also had them on my 4runner.
Probably the best tires I've owned.

 

Glad to hear this. I'm new to them, but I have high hopes.

 

Nitto exo grapplers are 3 peak rated. I had dura track and KO2 prior and the EXO have outperformed those by considerable. Just my .02 living in NE North Dakota

 

Didn't realize KO2's were made in that size, thought only the mud terrain KM3's were.

 

Why not consider the Cooper ST MAXX? They have proven themselves over and over again on my wife's 4runner after rocking some Toyo AT2...the AT3s are superior to the AT2s but I feel the ST MAXX make it to the top of the mountain with less trying...solid tread-life rating too!

 

I’m not discounting your experience, but mine is far different. I’m a first responder, have been for 22 years. I’ve driven a lot of really bad roads. In my opinion, the KO2 tires I’ve used served me very well, and I assure you I wasn’t following the mag chloride truck.

I’ve taken a numbers of road trips to hunt elk in inclement weather and had no issues. I’ve also used a couple of sets of both Duratracs and KO2 on my work vehicle and was happy with both.

 

Cooper ST Maxx have been great in CO weather for me. Running Wildpeak AT3w now for my 37’s, only because at Maxx doesn’t come in that size.
Stoked to see how they do.

 

was that Grand Canyon under the snow ? what time of the year ?

 

I spent last December in Big Sky Mt and Bozeman in a new Sequoia with new Ridge Grapplers and was pretty surprised and impressed really with the snow performance all around.

First I took them on a 1500 mile cross country trip pulling a trailer through the blizzards to get there and then I stayed at 10K feet in a snow covered resort with 52 miles of snow packed roads the entire time.

Whether on the Interstate or between the 2 towns or just in the resort road system I was never unsure of the footing or traction and it could have gone really bad really fast at all times and did for others!

Then I just bought the Falkens for myself and have not had them on Snow just yet but in the torrential S Florida rain they were also amazing so I am pretty hopeful about the Snow and Ice that is coming too.

 

I'm in Bozo and can contest that tires make the whole difference in winter...much like AK...best thing to have is good tires...even before 4wd/AWD...

 

General ATX has never let me down. That up and over Teton Pass 4 to 5 days a week. Audi A3 I run Nokian hakkapeliitta 8 studless, hakka’s are the real deal. Blow away blizzacks.

I’m a fan of the falken wildpeak at3, they have been solid for me in the snow. I ran them on an fj cruiser and first gen tundra before this and they were as good if not better than ko2s I had a few years ago. There was a lot of socal mountain snow last winter and they performed great and the price is right.

Goodyear's are banned from my household now.
BFG KO2s definitely ARE good in snow. Not so good I have found on just wet, rainy roads, but here in SW Michigan the BFG KO2s have done me well on several trucks through winter snow.

When I was up your way in 2011/12, I saw so many rigs running with the Cooper STT M/T's. Lots. That's why I bought the new STT Pro M/T's for my 07 tunnie after I drove back here. What do you see most folks using up there now? When I was up at BP's facility at Milne Point, north of Kuparik where I flew into CP's joint services airfield with BP, the whole BP fleet (British Petroleum/Conoco Philips for our lower 48ers) was running with Goodyear Dura Tracs which I had on my 09 Taco up there. I'm talking close to 100 + trucks easy that were based east out of Prudhoe. My Goodyear Dura Tracs performed great and apparently BP thought so too with all their trucks using them. Conditions there were harsh in the AK winter up there to say the least at 800 miles north of Anchorage as the raven flys..much harsher than the lower 48 winters in near total darkeness when I was up on the "slope" Heh...heh.

Running CB +3 shackles in the rear. Recently installed airbags also.

That was the grand canyon in January. There wasn't much in the grand canyon but williams had about 11 inches on the 40 the we were driving through.

 

Bottom line_____No matter what tires you have in snowy cold regions conditions are always changing so you must drive accordingly!
First snow there are always idiots that get not so friendly reminders from Mother Nature!

 

May I ask why no goodyears??
