Also, it's been my experience that body shops prefer to paint over black surrounds. They can see the paint coverage easier than over a light colored surround, and if you have any rock chips in the future, it will be black underneath the paint.

 

Thanks Roman, appreciate the info! Does the grill surround come in any sort of “prepped for painting” option or do you actually have to choose a color?

 

Just have to choose a color. All the non-chrome options are painted from the factory.

Thanks, I found another thread where he mentioned modifying the brackets so they sit closer to the body of the truck. Don’t think I’ll be able to pull that off

 

I swapped mine to the Go Rhino RB20 and couldn't be happier. They're super tight to the body and are very non-slip when wet or muddy

I’ll have to try to get some better pictures tomorrow but I got them on today. They’re a little darker than They looked online, more of a gunmetal I’d say, but regardless I’m tickled with how they look on the truck.

SSM brothers, I have a 2016 SR5(with the absurd chrome on chrome grille) and am about to pickup a 2018 SR5 grille with white surround. I already have blacked out wheels and the black 2020 SR5 halogen headlights in my garage. I’m not a fan of chrome but I do think it looks pretty good with the SSM color if there isn’t too much of it. Should I just pop out my grille inserts and sell the white surround to a stormtopper on here or try to get the white color matched SSM at a local shop? Not sure what that would cost and I would then have to buy a SSM bulge too down the line. I am leaning towards keeping some chrome and saving the money for other mods.

 

Not the best picture...but just switched out the 20's on the platinum to 18s from a TRD.

 

I had a trd pro insert with the chrome surround plus black trd pro halogen headlights on mine for a little bit before I went into colormatch mode. Here's are some pics of it so get an idea.
This is after I colormatched everything.

 

But they both look great! I will just have to see what the body shop wants to charge to color match a surround to see if it makes sense.

 

Does anyone have a painted surround but with the stock (not TRD) insert? I'm thinking of doing this but not sure how it would look. Chrome is my nemesis for cleanliness lol

 

My stocks hung way too low and stuck out too far also. These are Iron Cross Patriot. I did trim the brackets to suck them in further.

Agreed. I’m going to reach out to one or two body shops to see the cost to color match the grille surround but if the cost is high I will just go with the chrome surround with 2018 insert. It will still look like a nice upgrade without color matching everything.

 

No I ordered a silver sky platinum grille and a super white trd pro grille and swapped center sections.

 

Cameron may not have, but I did (many years ago) and it matches perfectly

 

Yeah both grilles I bought came from Sparks at different times. I didn't order it paint matched because of the wait time plus they had a 14-17 platinum grilles on sale at the time so I got one in silver sky and used the surround. Then I searched for a trd pro grille from a 15-17 and super white was the cheapest. I swapped center sections and sold that grille to a local forum member.

 

I’m looking at the Pro grille swap as well. Talked earlier to a member about the painting option, but I’m wondering if your swap method with a platinum will be cheaper. I have a 17, are there specific years I need to look at that fit both the platinum and sr5 to make the swap easier?

 

As I remember, any Gen 3 Platinum/SR5 grill can be swapped ...

 

2014-up are interchangeable. The centers are held in with 4 screws and a buttload of clips
