Yep. Pretty much the only product I’ll use and recommend going forward. Except maybe on the Lawn Machine.

Mine stays in the garage as well, and now you got me wanting to clean it up really well after the next cut since it'll prob be the last of the year. I may even throw some optimum tire coating on it since i have so damn much lol. but not sure about cerakote on the plastic trim....but we'll see. I still have another 2-4 wipes left

So I see that Griots 3-1 ceramic wax is apparently the favored wax product currently and before I get some of that for my new Tundra... What are the current recommendations for best of breed in:

    -Car wash/soap
    -Tire Shine/Protectant
    -Detailing Spray

What other products should I be using to clean and protect a new Tundra?

No critquing. :) Still lots of cleaning to go and no sun shots, lol. Also the turtle wax hybrid likes to streak, then again it's black.

How should I remove the clear silicon (I think its that at least) that the previous owner used to seal the driver side channel & on top of the windshield? Just sand it off? Wire wheel? Is there anything that will dissolve it so I don't have to risk paint damage?

    Thanks

Looks good man! And I thought I remembered reading or watching somewhere that the turtle wax hybrid had that issue, but it was because of something like too much used, waiting too long, or surface too hot. Something like that. I may be wrong though.

I applied mine in a garage so likely using a bit too much. The good thing is a damp microfibre takes care of it, that is if you can find them.

Ok, I fixed this problem this weekend, but curious if anyone has ever seen it before.

Last November I did an Iron-x, wash, clay mitt (nanoskin fine), and this is how my paint came out:

[IMG]Untitled by Brad Davis, on Flickr

Not the swirls that I'm worried about, but that weird spotting.

It didn't have it before and it did after. Is this from the clay mitt? Could it be from letting soap dry on it and leaving it all night? That last part is part of a longer story I'll tell.... I just don't want this to happen again when I need to clay it again in the future.

I had an area or two like that after "lightly" claying with a fine nanoskin mitt. I'm 100% sure it was because of a lack of lubrication in those areas, the areas were the same pattern as the mitt. I did try to break mine in on glass before using it but maybe not enough, not sure if that could be another possible reason. Regardless it did come out while polishing, however I'm thinking of possibly switching to regular "premium" fine clay next time.

Hmm. Two good responses. I kind of hope it was do to the drying of soap, but I agree with Sask3m that it looks an awful lot like the mitt. I was just using soapy water as a lube though. I used detail spray as a lube this last time and it didn't seem to get any worse.

I’d say it was from the mitt as well, maybe a combo to that and not rinsing the IronX off correctly.

But after reading the rest of the story, who knows what you had going on that night?

Sorry it took so long! The clear coat is peeling/ruined but you can also see the sealant they put down across the windshield and driver side gutter.

I have a DA and can get it off mechanically I'm sure.

Was just wondering if there was magic goo like aircraft stripper but for adhesives that would take it but not make the paint worse/thinner.

I expect to have to repaint some of it.

Going to try and do my final before winter detail this weekend. I typically would wash with Dawn before claybar to get the surface as clean as possible. Is dawn sufficient at getting the old sealant off the paint, or is it even necessary? I'm sure there are better products out there to accomplish this.

I've not found Dawn to be effective at getting rid of old waxes or sealants, unless they're somewhat degraded already. In your case, it seems like they probably are? Between the Dawn wash and the clay bar, any residual protection will be gone. As far as better products, see if you can find any Purple Power vehicle and boat wash. If you can't, Dawn and a clay bar will do the trick

Appreciate it. Actually, the finish isn't too degraded, last done in July. I probably could just top it with Griot's 3-1 for winter, but there are a few swirls I want to work on...... Seems never ending with a black vehicle lol.

I use black fire polish and really like it before sealant or coatings. It lays real well and comes off with a little less work then griots perfecting cream. Wolfgang and black fire I hear are very comparable products with each having some better then others.

Yeah I know. Eventually. And I know its a long shot. I have to replace the windshield now. I was just hoping to learn of a solvent that would get the unknown glue/goo off/out of the nooks and crannies before firing up the sander. I feel like if I hit it with aircraft stripper then its down to bare metal everywhere which may lead to other issues long term vs something that leaves the well adhered bad looking paint and takes the silicon. I have some MEK and toluene I can try.

Sharing a product I found to help get the paint from a parking garage pole off of the side of the truck...I got into the removal (and maybe beers) before I thought to take a picture. All of this was done with that product and a microfiber towel, no buffer. You can see a good bit of the damage in the first photo.
