what makes me angry - funny I see this today.

When a department wont take responsibility when one of their employees creates a problem. and just shrugs it off...

As an IT guy, specifically programming, when a user on our system sets up a new account and types in bad data but no one can
figure why a program all of a sudden doesn't execute properly and it took about 11 hours of debug combined with reading program code, to figure out the user screwed up...

The data set in question is corrected and then you report the corrected issue to the department supervisor and they say " oh, she fat fingered the district number"
oh, glad you figured it out, thanks...

Mind you, this same department does this type of stuff on a regular basis.... AMAZING

Rant is over - thank you - I feel better now...

I get angry when I see code written so badly that a simple mistake can screw up the system. Sanitized inputs aren't that hard. In case you're wondering, I've been a software developer for 40 years.

    You called me for help...:smack:

Seriously, I was thinking more like in person support.

No shit, we had a ticket about a new guy's outlook account not working. Nothing I can do, I'm networking/client support. The helpdesk was EMAILING the guy telling him to call the helpdesk.

Get this as an analyst too. At a former job, our manager asked a coworker (fellow analyst) to run a query for Region 1 District 1. My coworker grabbed a pen and paper, turned toward our manager listening intently. After a few awkward, silent moments, my coworker asked "What do you want me to query? What timeframe? What product?"

"Uhhhh... let me get back to you on that."

We were glad when that manager left the company.

The system has several different district codes that are valid/acceptable and she picked a valid code
just not the correct code for the associated account number and she knew it was wrong.

She just wasn't paying attention to what she was doing. I guess we could re-write that specific
portion and restrict their choices, but that would be to easy....

I get it man, unfortunately I inherited this mess and its getting re-written some time next year.
Hope I can hold out that long.

This is what happens when there aren't any standards and programmers are allowed to do whatever they want, then they leave.....

Me - been doing this for 36 years myself, so I get it.

I'll admit that happens from time to time - primarily because supervisors will pop up out of nowhere and suddenly make something my priority - but by the same token, I've seen some some actually ridiculous work orders.

    1. The guy who put in a work order for me to unplug his toilet. (I'm a server administrator.)
    2. The lady who put in a work order and then IMMEDIATELY went on 60 days of planned convalescent leave.
    3. The lady who got what she thought was a virus in her work order, and immediately *emailed it to all her coworkers to have them verify if it was or not.*

My personal favorite was an Air Force TSgt (technical sergeant) who submitted a work order and then proceeded to make himself unavailable for a MONTH. I mean, I called him at least 2x a day and emailed him as well (he never returned any of them); and I went onsite numerous times - his door was always locked and he 'wasn't there.' The last time, I literally used an ID card to jimmy the door lock (with the approval of his supervisor), and fixed his issue while showing the supervisor the many times I'd tried to get a hold of the TSgt.

After I'd closed his work order...2 days later, I got a negative ICE comment (interactive customer evaluation) from the guy, claiming that I was 'deliberately biased against the Air Force' as proven by the MONTH it took me to fix his issue.

When I was writing software, which included the user interface of industrial equipment, I posted a sign above my desk, "Artificial Intelligence is NO MATCH for Natural Stupidity!" When a plant floor supervisor came to ask me to block certain types of input, or do something else to keep the operators from doing something stupid, I would point that sign out to him.

According to my plumber brother, it's just called a water heater. If the water was already hot, there would be no need to it heat right?

Yes! It blows my mind when my wife and mother-in-law take 45 minutes to have a text conversation that could easily be a 30-second phone call.

My wife is the opposite. She has several hour-long phone conversations with her mother every single day about pretty much nothing.

I used to be the same way; and honestly, I still don't like talking on the phone for hours.

With that said, Dad passed in 2019 (brain/stomach/lung cancer), and I'd give ANYTHING even just to hear him tell stoopid dad jokes or gripe about something. LOL And yes, I'd even sit on the phone w/him and talk about nothing or listen to inane stuff.
