What do you all think of the new Camaro? I ve been playing on chevy.com, and building diferent configurations, and in no time the cost can become crazy, but I think I came up with one I can live with. Now I m thinking of buying one. Pics below is my build. It s a 1SS with a few options. Just big brakes, 10 speed auto, magnetic ride control, and dual mode exhaust. Just thinking about driving this makes me :D If you all care to chime in, I want to hear pros and cons about this car, and some insight if you own, or have owned one. A big question I have about it centers around winter driving, and tires.

What was the final price? As far as winter driving it’ll be fine in the rain, anything super bad, well that is what the Tundra is for...;)
    Looks sweet though

The big negative I've heard from folks is field of view. I've been told the new gen camaros from like 2011-on have wicked blind spots. You might want to swing by a dealer and take one around the block and see how you feel about it!

Heard the same as SquattingPigeon. You picked a good color (big fan of this on the Camaro/Challenger/Charger)! Find something you enjoy and it's awesome it's already making you smile!

Leave it in the garage when it snows.

Once the snow is over the bumper you are done, and that bumper is rather low. Does not matter what tires you have, cant plow snow for long.

I had one as a rental for work a few weeks ago. You couldn't see shit out of it, and the one I had was a turbo 4 which was absolute aids. To each their own, I've never owned a car and driven less than a handful ever so the whole part of sitting below most vehicles bumpers and how squished everything is wasn't for me. I think they look sweet though.

I was think of that myself. I live in Portland, and ice is more of a problem than snow. It s funny. When ice appears, grab a beer, and watch the inept crazies try to go up a hill, or better yet, go down a hill:rofl:

If you think that s bad you should sit in a Corvette. You are squished into the car for a reason though. Go 85 around a curve in your tundra, then try it in a vette, or camaro. You will notice a difference.

In the Philadelphia area we get more ice than snow as well. I had studded snow tires on my Camaro. They worked ok on the ice/snow but were horrible on dry ground. Broke my plastic bumper bad going thru a pile of 'snow' the snow-plow left behind (was more like a solid wall of ice). But that was my first car 30 years ago.

Can't really do much on ice other than wait for it to melt or get so cold it stops being slick.

I rented one for a couple days a few years ago and liked it well enough. If I was buying one personally as a fun car, I'd definitely go for a manual and I'd probably consider one with a supercharger if it wasn't too much more expensive.

You can go here, and click the [Build and Price] button. Bare bones ZL1 600+ hp option with supercharger, and manual tranny is $63,995. That s with out any of the goodies. I settled with the 400+ hp c7 corvette engine which is still bad ass, ended up at $45,075.00. I was able to add a few options that complement the engine/car, and still pay the rent:D

    Jack,
    Nice build.
The Camaro does have blind spots, from the little window behind the passenger door to the rear quarter panel. Eventually you will get around that. Originally that window by the way was supposed to roll down but they needed it solid for making it more structurally sound. The car is a blast to drive on dry days. All Camaro's suck in the rain, forget about snow and ice. Getting the best tires wouldn't help that much. Forget about putting adults in the back seat, they would be cramped. The rear seat is basically for cheaper insurance, it's now a 4 passenger vehicle and not really a sports car. Don't get me wrong I love Camaro's and personally know the people behind building and bringing it back in 2010. I drove the Camaro 2 years before it came out.
It is a great second car, not for rain, ice or snow.
I wish you luck on your decision. Here are pictures to show you I am being very honest....look at the time stamp on the pictures. Honestly if you want a fun car for your area look at the Dodge Charger they make that in All Wheel Drive.

In reality, not many vehicles are that great on ice. Tires are what make ice navigable; studs for the most part, but to say all Camaros suck in the rain is not accurate. The tread pattern of the tire is key, and thats been my main focus: the wheels and tires. Low profile 20" wheels looks nice, but you feel every bump, and you give up a lot. I would rather have an 18" wheel, and give the tire the room it needs to provide utility instead of looks, and that s what I am researching right now. As far as Dodge goes, I learned something today. If not for your post I would have never known, so I have another question to ask the dealer. Apparently the MDS system is a big part of many engines now a days, and I learned of it by reading about the hemi scat pack engine. Thanks for that. :hattip:

I had a 71 Camaro and wish i still had it today. It might be worth something. The wife and myself have talked about getting a convertible Camaro just to drive on the weekends and trips.

My son has a 2018 Camaro and he hates taking it on any road trip that is longer than an hr. Not a comfortable drive. Now he wants a truck which I had told him to initially purchase.

    Got this from wiki:
The SS model is equipped with a 6.2L LT1 V8 engine offered both as a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic. Chevrolet reports the SS capable of 455 horsepower and 455 lb.-ft. of torque, performing a 0-60 in 4.0 seconds. This model has three different trims the 1SS, 2SS, and 1LE which mainly differentiate by their interior features. While the 1SS packs the same power it lacks the leather heated/ventilated seats of the 2SS and the 1LE's suede Recaro seats. The 2SS includes some other features left out in the 1SS like interior spectrum lighting, heated steering wheel, blind-spot monitoring, Bose audio, and wireless charging.
So the devs knew it had blind spots, and just added monitoring as a sales gimick

I m the same way with my mothers Nissan Versa. After driving it for an hour I can barely get out of the car. Then I have to walk very carefully for a while.

i was in the market 1.5 yrs ago. had a 71 camaro as a 15 yr old decades back, now older and able to get a new one looked hard at a new camaro and a bunch of cars over budget like 911's and GTR's. was all over the place. stumbled upon the lexus rc f. took another hard look at the two and after test driving the rc f it was a no brainer for me. selected a low mileage lexus certified 2017 in liquid platinum. the new ones were way out of budget and they all have the same toyota motor UR series v8. there are faster cars in its class but the driving experience is on point, high revving v8 and the sound...wow. never gets old. a cpl of the newer camaros have seen its tail lights.

if you haven't taken a look at an rc f may be worth a peek. lexus class and comfortable. good luck.

46k for a kick in the pants hot rod doesnt sound bad when you bring up 500k.
I test drove a 2020 2SS yesterday morning. I had my doubts about driving a stick because I messed up my left hip driving a dump truck for several years. I swore I would never push a clutch ever again, but after driving the Camaro, I m a born again clutch monkey. That car is explosive muscle with a standard tranny. And the ride was nothing to complain about. I m not sure what your son drove; mabey one with Riccaro seats. Those seats fit you in like a tight glove, and has hardly no cushion. At-any-rate, I m sold on the car. I submitted my build to a dealer, and now, just have to wait.
