Wet pcm

So my windshield started leaking recently, and we got a nasty rainstorm. My vehicle wouldnt start in the morning when I woke up to go to work, later on in the day it would start struggle to stay running and then would die. Upon google searching the symptoms seemed to be a PCM issue, I removed the PCM and a lot of water had come out (I drive a 2006 Toyota Tundra SR5 4.7L). Friday afternoon put the PCM into a bag of rice, this afternoon I re-installed the PCM Sunday to no avail.

I am thinking of 2 COAs before I decide to pull the trigger on a new vehicle (Im trying to keep this for as long as possible should I promote within the next 48 months then Ill probably buy a newer vehicle as a gift to myself). The first is maybe I didn't let it dry out enough and 36-48 hours was not nearly long enough, I also tried again this monday to noavail.

The other COA is I have found a few PCMs for this engine online for like 200+, what I am wondering is do I have to flash the new PCM or can I just plug and play? I am trying to avoid spending thousands on this vehicle it is 14 years old and has over 230K on it, trying to get every dime out of her before I send this truck to the yard. (I purchased a used PCM last night so ultimately just wondering if the pcm's are plug and play or if I need to go to the dealer to program the thing?)

 

If you stick to the same year it should be fine. I'd put the old one in and pull codes beforehand.

I am really hoping it works, I wont get it until next week but Ill report back. I really like the truck Ive had it since 2012 drove it coast to coast and back again.. As long as nothing super catastrophic happens I plan on running it into the ground.

I think you’ll be fine. Maybe plan on a new windshield so the leak factor is eliminated.

I had an issue with mine after a bad windshield install. My truck would start by just turning the ignition to ACC, the locks on the door or window wouldn't work (can't remember which) and a few other issues. I put a fan in the floorboard for a day and all was ok. Of course I kept it covered until I re-replaced the windshield...
