Has anyone done the under seat storage mod? I was thinking about doing it to my tundra because eveytime I carry stuff it ends up sittin on the back floor or on a seat. If you have done it can you post a pic and what storage did you purchase?

Are there any other options besides the ESP? I’m just leery of cutting into the carpet.

Only way to make room under the seat in Gen Three is to cut into the carpet and foam. Many have done it on here with pics. Luckily, my ‘11 RW has the seats on the slide and tilt forward so I can still fit gear under them and behind them. One of the STUPIDEST changes Toyota made to the Crewmax interior imo.

Very simple mod! Just do what I did have a few shots of whisky and a few beers and start cutting...honestly one of the best mods once I got the balls big enough to cut the carpet and insulation. Remember to cut inside the line to make it a snug fit and you will absolutely love it. I keep a first aid kit, a pull rope, ratchet straps and a few towels.

Do you guys notice any more road noise since you have to cut the insulation?

Do it, I promise you won't regret it. After it's in, you will think it's a OEM piece. It's not hard at all, 1 hr tops. Best mod ever!

Looks like a lot of wasted room, is there a reason why they cannot offer the longer door version in plastic, like their steel version?

One of the best mods. It's a little scary to cut into a brand new (3 days old) truck's carpet, but so worth it.

    Hi all,

I get cutting through the carpet, pad. To the interior side of the sheet metal. However, is this mod actually cutting through the sheet metal leaving a big hole, the opposite of a sunroof hole?

Any photos along the way of this?

    Thx

The only cutting is to carpet and foam. You’ll find a number of videos on YouTube for the ESP installation.

Yes. The reason they do 3 small bins is because the seat mounting brackets run in between each of the bins.

They do make a "long box" version that is metal, and it comes with new seat brackets. Personally, I'm not willing to take the seats out, rip up all the carpet, and replace the seat brackets. I have the 3 bin version waiting in the truck. Hoping today is the day I have time to install.

The long box is a great choice. The install isn't hard and you pick up enough storage for essentials. I keep jumper cables, first aid and other roadside emergency gear stowed. I didn't notice any additional noise after the install beyond some gear rattle that I repacked to resolve.

Adam, today CAN be the day! The previous offer of helping you with your mods still stands. Besides, it can be a preliminary “sound-off” of at least the two “loudest mouths” of the Cavalry Blue Brothers! :argue:

I think they redesigned it for the 20s. I think there was a thread about it.

It’ll fit. From what I’ve seen, when you’re cutting the foam in the middle section, cut from the passenger side to the driver’s side. There’s a sheath around the wires and it’ll, for sure, protect the wires from the blade if you come from that side. If you come from the other side, there’s less protection. The bundle of wires runs pretty close to the center of the section.

I have this set up in my truck. Definitely worth the and effort put in to install! I also cut a thin yoga mat for the bottom so the gear does slide or rattle in it
No sheet metal cutting. Literally only carpet and foam

I used the carpet cutout but I think the mat probably helps better with the gear not rolling around

I saw a picture where someone cut their mat to make it fit, but not on top. Just try it. The front seats should make it stay in place.

It will be a pain to get to the bins if you have to fold the mat over to the front to get to the locks so that the lids can be folded up the other way so you can get into the bin while holding the lid in one hand and the mat in the other hand...
