    Guys,
I recently purchased a SR5 Tundra basic model. I mostly use it for camping, fishing or hauling stuff. I would like to add a skid protector to it but Im not sure what brand or kind to use. please keep in mind I do not have a lift or plan on getting one. Im leaving the truck stock as much as I can. Should I get the TRD brand? do this plates typicality just bolt into the fame?

    Thank you all.

There are alot of different companies that make them. Just google tundra skid plates. Just a few offhand are rci, cbi, budbuilt.

If you want to keep the truck stock, look for a TRD one. Sometimes people are selling used ones cheap when they replace it with an aftermarket one.

love my TRD one, but it rubs the frame anytime the body flexes on turns and driveways. You can mitigate it by putting some hard rubber or foam between the skid and the frame by the back two bolts.

I've heard great things about the RCI one. If I didn't have the TRD skid from the factory I'd probably go with RCI

it's a common issue. At first a bunch of us thought it was a suspension creak, but it's just how Toyota mounted the back two bolts to the cross member. You can certainly torque the bolts enough to make it stop, but it seemed to always come back -- for me at least. Here's the thread fix for it.

It’s so annoying - I paid labor at a shop to diagnose it.

Does he offer any forum discounts or anything? If not, it’s $70 more for engine/trans skid plates.

I know rci is the package, but truck brigade doesn’t have that option. It’s still $15 more for just the engine skid.

RCI Steel plate. Love that it has an access point for oil changes.

Call @Truck Brigade also or PM them. It’s also free shipping from them I think.

I have RCI aluminum skid plates all around except for the fuel tank (steel) and rear diff skid (Victory 4x4 ... got a great deal on it here). No complaints with them at all.

I bought the P&P front skid bc it’s a bit thicker than the RCI, but went w RCI for the mid engine and the rear differential
Kept the stock skid for my gas tank.

    Not enough....
Second for the P&P engineering plate. Very happy that it's proper 3/16" steel. 20201006_170626.jpg
