What's the recommended service life of the fan clutch?

 

I'm with y'all. It's almost like Fleabay, you have to vet out all the sellers to ensure you don't end up with cheapo knockoffs/counterfeits.

 

Unsure. I will say that the old one and new one felt the same in hand when giving the first turn. The first turn felt the same. A different feel began when twist turning them back and forth. The old one started becoming looser with each twist. The new one stayed firm/consistent and precise in each twist.

 

Regarding the use of a non-residue solvent, would brake cleaner do?

 

Yup, I wouldn't even consider that kit. It uses a pretty weak temp probe that goes into the radiator fins rather than an in-line sensor to turn them on. They were popular ten years ago on TS and a handful of honest guys said they couldn't feel the difference in horsepower.

Lincoln mkViii fan blows more and is more reliable, but I still don't think its worth the trouble.

 

Here I was thinking it was an Aphex Twin logo. The two are hardly distinguishable at 20ft.

 

The CRC Green Can Brakleen (non-chlorinated) for blasting engine/auto parts. I also have Acetone and Denatured Alcohol if needed for spot touch.

 

Engine Coolant Temps are staying right at 185° (versus 195-200°). Had the truck in idle for an extended period after driving a bit this morning. Temp stayed right at 185° without wavering. Stoked.

Noticing that early morning cold start chirp/squeak doesn’t happen anymore. Probably due to the New Fan Bracket.

Tightened down the Stainless Worm Clamp I put on the Power Steering Rear Connecting Hose. The old OEM clamp lost its memory Mojo when pulling the Pump forward off the mount post. Topped off the Coolant to the H Line as the highway driving has finalized the last of the air bleed.

Performed MultiMeter OHMs test on the new Ground wire and all is good at Zero. All things are becoming parallel.

 

When they don’t work or get stuck locked. Some last forever some last 100k

 

I changed out my fan/bracket when I did my water pump.

 

You guys made me think about when I first got my truck and it put it in it's peak ugly puberty phase. I had to dig pretty good to find these pics because I made myself forget about that grill. Kinda feel like tossing the old rims on for the heck of it now.

I had that same grill for a year, minus the Toyota logo. Went back to stock because I didn't have the lower valance to match and it bothered me, that and having the out of place bar left on my bumper.

 

If you, @Thrussn or any other members want to part with your chrome mirror caps, and they're dent free or generally in good shape, and you'll let them go at a good price that beats me finding a truck on a yard and pulling myself, give me a shout. I assume they just snap on/off once you remove the mirror glass using tabs?

I've been mulling over some thoughts lately, but lack the parts to test those appearance changes out. I don't want to go spend an arm on a leg on new parts for something I won't like and choose not to keep, so I'm more interested in buying cheap and used-but-good shape.

 

Wouldn't look as bad if the surround had been painted to match, I think?

 

I’ve been wanting a grille like that with the old pickups as inspiration. I was going to have my wife make a “TOYOTA” vinyl sticker for the tailgate and maybe de-badge a little.

BUT there’s not as much love for the DCs in regards to grilles. Plus it seems like it’s a pain in the ass to achieve such a look

I finally have my rear wheels removed. They were frozen solid onto the brake drums. I had sprayed PB on it for a couple of days. Nada. I've tried everything, even by loosening bolts, and driving for 5 ft, then slamming on brakes. I also tried the lift with floor jack and "drop violently" option. No go.

I ended up bringing the truck to my favorite local tire shop, and for $15 each, I had them rebalance each of my wheels. They used the THOR hammer, a big ol' mallet, and knocked the wheels off. They removed the unsightly crimped on weights, and put on the proper stickered weights on the inside part of the alloy wheels.

I've taken apart the brake drum and found that it was in very good shape. It will need proper disassembly, cleaning, and rust preventive measures before being put back on. @N84434, what did you use to paint your outer brake drum and backplate black?

Any chance these may be OEM parts?

I might have my chrome caps still. I can look after work tonight. One was pretty fooked up but I will check

Ive changed mirror caps twice now, Both times I have broken one clip at least, but I dont remove the glass first. With glass off its really easy, but i have also broken the glass trying to get it back on befor

 

I believe he is getting them from an Android app called Torque, in conjunction with a Bluetooth OBD dongle.

 

KT: I used Chassis Saver, which is similar to POR-15. Not sure if those rear drum parts are original, but it's quite possible. Degrease, clean thoroughly, then apply a liberal amount of paint

 

when I first got my Tundra, I had to loosen the lug nuts a bit, and rock the truck side to side to get them to come off.

 

well trying to get rid of my storage unit and have the tacoma and stuff closer to home. really considering one of these at the farm.. anyone have experience with storing cars in one?

my shelves, the Tacoma, and the Mercedes could all fit in here and they're air tight... my only concern is moisture when it gets hot then cold.. but ventilation could be added id assume

My caps have been plastidipped for the last few years. I'm pretty confident they are in good condition. They're the ones I'm running though unfortunately. I'll reach out if I find black or paint matched ones. I've been on the hunt.

I bought his exact obd2 reader. It's on big gurrl under the name bafx and it's the one reader. It's really nice, but if you have the 05-06 model tundra with the 5 speed, It won't read the trans temp. Ask me how I know lol.

 

Been there done that actually. It wasn't bad and I liked it, but I ended up selling the grill and going back to the look I have now.
