What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

It is actually! It's a limited edition "Half-Life" package. Lol jk

I did it in high school years back and decided to keep the decals.

It's sort of interesting. You need to be a nerd for the game to appreciate it, but I'm actually in New Mexico in the process of getting a job at the real work equivalent of Black Mesa in "secret" radiation stuff lol.

Haha awesome! I was 5 when the second half life came out, but I got around to play it in middle school. I do game pretty often still but not so much garrys mod or the half life series.

 

Anyone try these? My fogs are pretty dark, but my area is pretty residential so these lumens didnt seem to crazy and they dont seem to need any resistor or anything. What you guys think?

Electric fans can help on the highway to an extent. But they just physically cannot flow the same amount of air as a mechanical fan. So especially offroad electric fans may not be enough to keep the ol 4.7 cool. Mechanical fan fully locked can do like 10k CFM if I remember right

 

These can actually be rebuilt and Toyota still sells the silicon to do it.

 

Junk. Don’t waste your money. Either buy what @Professional Hand Model runs or I run modified 9012 bulbs. They have INSANE output

 

Well im not necessarily looking for something super bright. I live in a pretty populated area, so bright enough but not blinding.

I think the first part is the other way around. Electric fans help when driving low speeds, when you're at highway speeds the fans are hardly needed. On my GTI they kick on only in the city traffic or while parked, on the highway I never reach temps for them to kick on (above 195)

Completely agree that I would rather have mechanical on a truck though. The only possible advantage aside from maybe 1 or 2 mpg is if you hit a deep water crossing you can shut off the electric fan to avoid damaging blades. I don't think many of us are going that deep.

 

Tell me more about Dupli-color and a link to find it please. I have an 04 with imperial jade and would love to do some touchup if this is applicable. Also your truck looks sweet.

 

bought a transmission for a friend & plopped it into the Tundra's bed.

 

Electric fans on cars no problem. Electric fans on the trucks can work, but if you’re useing the trucks as trucks (especially towing or off-roading) the electric fan just can’t keep up. I’ve had a couple trucks in the shop from overheating only to find out the flex a kite fans couldn’t keep up.



totaly for electiric fans on cars and as condensor fans though. Now electric fans CAN be designed for trucks. But the radiators are also a wee bit different for more efficiently cooling with them too. Crossflow radiators instead of ones like ours will work better with the electric fans because the coolant tends to stay in the fins a wee bit longer

 

the ones posted i personally have experiance with. theyre super dim compared to even the stock halogens. i believe katanas are what PHM uses. thats what i'd look into if i were you

 

Agreed. Junk it is. They may be bright enough for you but due to their design, I guarandamtee you they will create glare. Those LED elements are nowhere near where a halogen filament would be inside the housing and will be pretty chit cut-off wise. I 2nd the modified 9012 bulb. Those will put out more light than a stock 9006 and will have similar cutoff/output and are a color that will actually help with fog unlike the whiter color of LED which will just get reflected back at you in foggy conditions. Meh.

 

the 9012s were the best decision i made.. so much more light low and to the side that really helps with deer. the backroads are full of them... still need to make some ditch light brackets so i can get some really good light out far and to the side...

If your vehicle uses the bulbs on the right, replace them with the modified bulbs listed on the left. Much more light, not much more wattage. Similar beam patterns. "Nuff said.

 

i dream for a HIR h4 to be a thing. but alas i dont think we'll ever see it.

very simple to do. the Red stays. all rest gets cut

HIR bulbs. No longer made by Toshiba though. The original HIR bulbs had large rounded bulbs.

Unfortunately, only 9011 (replaces 9005) and 9012 (replaces 9006) are HIR. The H11 (9003) can be replaced with an H9 which is standard halogen but has higher output.

The video doesn't mention it, but you also may need to trim the top metal tab about 3mm on the left side when looking at it from the bulb side. More info here......

 

My Fog Lights are the Headlight Revolution PerfectFit LED which are no longer available. They were about $180 (high dolla), but they are nice and bright clean light. The 2002 has a different housing shape as your 2003. I wouldn’t worry too much about the Fogs being bright as they are designed to spread beam side to side AND down low. Many Fog LED Fog bulbs cannot be sold as headlights due to DOT Specs.

Now to try and answer your question: I believe Katana makes a nice Fog plug and play bulb in LED. There are many others out there in the $30-50 range you could try. Main thing is you need to make sure they don’t mess with the high beam light indicator on the later 1st Gens. Bright is good especially in residential. Lets your see curbs or little kitties getting ready to run out in front of you.

Check out the beam patterns of headlights vs. fogs and you’ll have a better understanding of why I’m saying not to worry about brightness assuming your housings are aimed properly.

 

Yeah. I read about all the guys in 2005 that were ‘redoing’ their clutches oil for better performance. I think the oil is like $60 vs a new clutch $160 thats done perfect to spec which I opted. Eliminates the guess work on the silicone.
