Great video yet again! Think maybe you could post a link to the specific actuator you are using? I've searched and it seems there are several to choose from.

I have and installed the older POP & LOCK in the link above.
They have a newer version of this that seems to be more solid and possibly quieter.
    POP & LOCK PL8547HD
    https://vehiclesecurityinnovators.com/product/2007-2020-toyota-tundra/

It also has a 2 wire grommet as opposed to shoving the POP & LOCK wire into the existing OEM camera wire grommet.
I'm considering replacing mine with new one to see if it makes less noise when locking/unlocking..

I added some leftover Dynamat to inside of the tailgate panel, but that old version of the POP & LOCK is pretty loud.
Especially when I get home from work at midnight and lock it in the driveway.

But at least with my high end hearing loss, I hear the POP & LOCK when I don't hear the Toyota lock chirp..:eek2:
I usually hit the lock button twice so I hear the horn tap on the second lock.

    The new version, PL8547HD

    The old version, PL8535..

I'm going to install the Pop&Lock with the plug and play harness and just wondering why the battery needs to be disconnected? Looks like there won't be any exposed wires hanging about, so why bother disconnecting the battery?
    What did you guys do?

    Cheers

Almost every set of instructions say to disconnect the battery when your playing with wiring. You have to remove the passenger side kick panel and either disconnect the connector to install the T harness or use two wire taps on the unlock and lock wires. The wiring method depends on what popnlock kit you bought. Even disconnecting connectors that have power can cause issues such as trouble codes. You don't want to accidentally short some wires and cause other issues so disconnecting the negetive battery terminal is advisable.

Thanks! Never thought about any trouble codes, thanks. I was more concerned about losing any settings, but I have no idea what these new fangled vehicles are capable of now!

    Cheers

The chances are slim but if you disconnect a wrong connector it could happen. Because you are using a T harness and if you know the connector your disconnecting, you'll be fine. I just installed my popnlock and didn't disconnect the battery negative and had no issues. Your call.

Did you notice in the instructions they also say that when you remove the panel from the tailgate, they tell you to put masking tape on the inside edge on the tailgate. They want to make sure you don't cut yourself on the metal edge.

    Thanks again!
Harness looks pretty simple to install.
All I had time for yesterday was removing the panels on the passenger side and found the wiring harness to disconnect.
I haven't looked at the instructions yet so have not seen the section on the masking tape.
I guess they have to make instructions nowadays to cover their asses!

    Thank you for your input!
    Cheers

Pop & Lock installed today! I never bothered disconnecting the battery as it was pretty obvious which plug to remove. I didn't bother with the tape over the exposed tailgate parts either.

I think it took longer to read the instructions than to do the actual install! An easy upgrade and happy I did it because I hated using that key in the fob!

    Cheers

Probably the hardest part is routing the wire along the factory harness and coming up through the floor grommet.

Yeah, and once again I didn't follow instructions.
I pulled the rubber floor plug, banged a very small hole in it with a hole punch, pulled the wire through to the 14" they recommended then made all the connections at the front end.
I have some Cat guards and I could not get at the bottom of the rubber plug so I used my grabber claw from underneath and pulled the male end of the long wire down through the cab, laced it through with the stock wire harness, plugged it into the tailgate end and gave it a try.
Once I was happy that it worked ok, I went back underneath and zip tied the loom.

I'm happy with how it works and glad I bought the plug/play kit.

    Cheers

Possibly a dumb question, but can the standard OEM keyed lock still be used w a Pop and Lock? If the P&L fails, can the manual lock still be used to unlock the tailgate?
