Has anyone had a door key made? IE a copy of just the key section of the fob. (I have the keyless start). I go out in the boonies a lot and would like to be able to get in the truck if the fob is lost.

I made a key and hid it under the truck, just in case I loose it on vacation. I have my spare in the console safe.

Exactly what I am trying to do. I'll stop by the local key place and see if they can cut it.

I just had a replacement made for my 2020 TRD PRO. The local shop dropped the key fob in acetone or something that ate the surface of the fob.. I had my local dealer do the key and actual metal key that is in the key fob.. Cost just over $300 for new fob and program and took an hour. Had to order the new one ahead of time. Also got it from the dealer, which I am sure cost more then online.

How far does the fob activate autostart and door unlock?
Edit: can you take battery out of fob and stash key under truck then re add battery if needed to get out of pinch?

I just want an old school metal key....

I had planned to put it in one of those RF blocking bag things.

You could definitely stash the fob! I live in the PNW though, I am worried about water proofing without making it super obvious.

Not a bad idea, but I generally keep my key in my pocket... Or when backpacking etc, Id really like to have a door key (I have always had one on my 4runner) if in case I loose it somehow.

I had the dealership cut me a valet key that just unlocks the drivers door and tailgate. They cut it by the VIN. I think it cost $10.

Correct, no chip. I just wanted a plain key to unlock the doors in case the regular keys would get locked in.
