Does anyone have this radio installed? About to pull the trigger on it. Wanted to see if anyone has it and can give me your thoughts.

Are you running an amp as well?

Only advice is to just buy it lol. If you can find the non Excelon version for less and you arent running or planning to add an amp then get the non Excelon version, otherwise the XR is the way to go. Ive had at least 5+ Pioneer HUs, 3 Kenwood HUs, and 1 Alpine HU over the years, will only go with Kenwood at this point.

    Currently have the DMX906s Excelon

Not yet, but I plan on going with an OEM+ system or James' system at some point. I was a huge Kenwood fan and then went with Alpine. Haven't had Kenwood in almost 20 years and just wanted to make sure the quality is till up there. Thanks for the input!

It is, the units have a faster response time than the Pioneer units. Sound tuning is fun with their options, theyre nice for someone looking to dabble with tuning but not concerned with getting in depth tuning. They have a sound effect menu that does work quite well with the Tundras system. The sound level function does a good job of raising the sound stage making it sound like its coming from ear level, so your not hearing things from your knees. Pioneers are a bit more basic in that department. If you want to get into DSPs and the like, then the units build in functions kind of dont matter.

Awesome! I am not a fan of Pioneer at all. I like to do a little tuning but definitely not going to go into in depth tuning. Only found it in stock at one store, lol. Going to pull the trigger today. Thanks again!

Yeah, same here. I didn't know about it either until I called them about the purchase. I used part of Crutchfield's install gear and the rest through Abt.

The Excelon models have a few extra features, some are just marketing junk though.

They have gold plated RCA low level outputs. Those outputs actually output 5V instead of the normal 4V, so a little easier on the amp gain, less likely to have a high noise floor or static noise without any music playing.

The gold plated outputs support something ridiculous, don't quote me here, but something like a 20hz-88khz bandwidth, not that you could even hear anything that high.

Power output might be a bit higher, typical RMS on their units is 20-24W. They also have a 3 way x'over. Which I suppose could be useful, but most are going to run separate DSPs at that point.

Basically the main thing is you get 5V to the amp and the option for a 3 way x'over, not a lot but I do like the reduction in the likeliness of that low hiss between songs.

Post pics when y’all get these installed. I love my DMX906S but I really wish I had a volume knob. Not sure if it’s worth upgrading - these are pricey. :spending:

The upgrade would be pretty much entirely for the screen space and resolution. The 906s already has the wireless features the 1057 has. Other than that it has newer firmware. Still tempting.

I’m very tempted...maybe some Black Friday deals will surface. I figure since I have all the Maestro, harness and other appurtenances installed it would be a straight 5 minute swap out.

I have an 07 CM with JBL but not navigation. If I wanted to replace the amp at the same time as putting in this head unit, does that mean I'd need to replace the speakers as well? Any recommendations for an amp replacement?

I'm not completely sure but I know a lot of people on here would recommend replacing the speakers at the same time. I'm doing mine in stages. I'll be doing this head unit and then eventually getting a system from JRT Audio or OEM Audio Plus. I may even piece mine together from Crutchfield or something. Still undecided on that part.
