Yeah, and our org is just about to replace 80Tb of share drives with OneDrive and SharePoint. That'll float like a lead balloon. LOL

Just got introduced to VMWare after a few years of Hyper-V....me likey.

Stoopid question - what exactly is 'out'? According to their Twitter feed, it's Outlook.com, but I have no issues getting to mine (though wife, who WFH, says she's had some issues).

I just failed the AZ-104 exam by literally one question! Good thing exams are zero cost for me. Retaking in 2 weeks and doing some practice tests in between.

Been there, done that - failed ITIL Foundation in 2018 by one question.

Spent a week taking practice exams at Udemy, I think it was; and easily passed. You’ll get it next time around.

What is/was out was basically anything with AAD auth. So, all of 365. There was a change identified as a possible culprit, and they had backed it out at like 4:45pm mountain. Due to propagation and uh, Microsoft-ness, services and users are/were slowly regaining access. Checking back on the status twitter, it seems like most users have regained access, but there are still some North American users with no/limited access.

AZ-104 is quite technical from what I hear. That's awesome that you get to take it again gratis.

I got the Whizlabs tests for under $10, I definitely agreed with the weak points on my score report anyway. Still, I guess one off from passing is not too bad for someone with no relevant technical skills trying to pick up something new.

Absolutely. I know people who've been IT guys/girls for a decade and still bomb the living crap out of an IT cert - and we're not talking the hard ones. LOL Some people just don't test well.

haha normally I’m quite good at tests... nailed the PMP for example, but this is so far out of my expertise it’s been a struggle

I've been a developer for, cough, 30 years. The last Cert I got was in the early 2000's.

Civil service; we *have* to have some of them. I think I'm in the same boat you are - when I got my job where I work, it was on 99% capability/experience, definitely not degree/certs.

Was in the Navy from '97 to '03, and remember a guy who worked for Xylan (they were bought by Alcatel) who came on board to install ATM switches.

Long story short, he told me he was making $90K/year, and got the job 'because his buddy pushed him to get MCSE cert.' I ended up showing *HIM* how to load/configure the switches.

Ha! I've been a network dude since the late 90's. My last cert expired in 06... Well I take that back, I have an ITIL V3 Foundations cert, but haven't been bothered to see if its "expired" now that V4 is out (and frankly I don't really care!)

Yeah, literally the only reason I got it (I do have v3 as well - got it literally a MONTH before they introduced v4 ) was because I do change management functions as part of my job.

I guess I need to see what it takes to update v3 to v4.

Yeah, I did some nosing around. Of course their site says "Major changes, focus on service lifecycle vs blah blah in v3" but with that said, I'm guessing the difference isn't huge.

I guess certs would really depend on what you're trying to do. I work as a customer facing cloud engineer right now, and my company does take into account our certifications when giving us raises. I guess it gives people the warm and fuzzies when there's some letters after our names.

If you got a job that's super stable and you're planning on staying with the company and position for a long time, I don't think certs will be super important.

I transitioned into IT from data analysis and certs played a crucial role in that. I really didn't want to go back to college, so certs and grunt experience were my only options to entering the field.
