    Hey guys,

I am new to the forum, have been reading this site for a few months and love everything that y'all do. Thank you to everyone for the knowledge and insight that you pass along to new members/Tundra owners like me!

I am new to Toyota and the Tundra. I am coming out of a 2016 deleted F-250 (bought it used) that was a POS! Bought a brand new Tundra (my first new truck for me - I am 33) due to the reliability (sick of Ford and GM). I bought my new 2020 Platinum Tundra in early August and have loved it thus far. I had the entire front end done in PPF, ceramic tint on every piece of glass, installed the a-pillar grab handle, Retrax bed cover and just had the truck detailed and ceramic coated.

I doubt that are related, but soon after I got the truck back from my detailer, the truck started making a creaking sound while reversing out of my garage in the mornings (always worst the first start of the day). The creaking is only in reverse and is rarely heard while reversing after the truck is warm. Never heard in drive. I get in the truck in the morning, start it, put it in reverse and there is no noise until I start to turn the wheel while reversing. The truck has 1,600 miles on it. I took it to my dealer Wednesday afternoon, went back Friday morning to confirm with the tech that we were talking about the same noise (service manager said he heard some pad slap which I guess is normal). The tech and I confirmed we were hearing the same noise and the tech confirmed the noise is coming from the steering.

    My questions are:

    1) Is this normal? (hopefully not)
    2) Has anyone experienced the same noise/issue from the steering?
    3) If, so what was the repair to make the noise go away?

I am dealing with the service manager directly and they seem baffled by the noise thus far which is never good. I have about the same luck with vehicles as Yotabruiser - per his recent thread! Any insight would be appreciated!

    Thank you everyone,
    Reed

Never heard of that. My truck creaks when it’s been sitting for awhile, but you’ve found the issue already. Maybe it just needs to be greased. You’re under warranty so the dealer should fix it.

Creaks can be hard to trace sometimes. I had an old f150 that creaked and it ended up being the fender bolts needed to be tightened up more.

So this noise didnt happen until after you got it back from the detailer right? He may have gotten some of the products he used in places he shouldn't have, maybe on the rubber grommets that the hood rest on? Just trying to think outside the box here. Wouldn't hurt to give some bolts a once over to make sure they're tight, and clean aay rubber grommets, etc that could have gotten detailing products on them.

Think you could post a video of the noise if you can capture it on video?

Yeah, I get that a lot when it comes to my vehicles - "Reed, we have never seen this before." :annoyed:

Yeah, I feel like I began hearing the noise once I got it back from the detailer. I picked up the truck from the dealer this morning. Did not hear anything on my way to the office or as I was backing out of my parking space at the office to head home. I will video me pulling out of the garage in the morning and see if I can capture the noise.

Dealer said the "noise is normal, the technician lubricated the steering stops and said it may ease over time." We will see what happens when I back out of the garage tomorrow and turn the wheel. Assuming the noise is still there, I find it hard to believe that this is normal. As I showed the tech the noise Friday morning, he had me begin to turn the wheel as the truck was sitting still and the noise started again. Appears to be steering related as I can also feel it in the wheel. I will report back tomorrow with a video.

Get someone else to back it up while you listen for the noise. I’ve chased down noises that weren’t where I thought they were.

I just had one that I swore was coming from the front and assumed it was the aftermarket bumper running the plastic trim. I could hear it through the dash. Turns out it was the far back corner of my truck cap.
