Can you buy the pre-painted black ones and scuff em up and re-clear with matte?

I’m not sure what I’m gonna do. I was hoping for an easy swap. I may just pay a body shop to strip and spray them with monstaliner to match the trucks new paint job.

just trying to have a game plan as far as tear down and prep goes for this undertaking

I Plasti-dipped mine when I did my Monstaliner. Holding up fine so far but will likely grab some adhesive promotor and line them Black when im doing the inside of the box. They are pretty simple to scuff and paint yourself.

Also worth noting, I wanted black handles some time.ago on my Tacoma so went aftermarket. They absolutely sucked compared to OEM, felt cheap, didn't fit well. Thats what lead me to just paint my OEM on Tundra instead

Bought a Black Dorman circa 10 years ago. Painted it last year. Holding well. Made sure all the inner mechanisms and clips were lubed properly while in there. Smooovvv.

Mechanism lube is key. When things get a little sticky in there, the tailgate doesn't want to unlatch. Then you use more force to try to open it and crack. Tailgate handle is busted again.
