Ordered an OVTune cable, software and program on August 11.

It’s now September 24, and still no files.

You can’t call them (no phone number).

I’ve sent FB messages, and they don’t respond—they just indicate that they don’t respond to FB.

I’ve emailed numerous times, and get no response.

I’ve posted in the large OVTunes thread on here and they give updates but fail to deliver. Most recently, they said that the tunes would be out last Friday. Now it’s nearly a full week later, and no tunes.

For those that do get tunes, it seems a fair number are posting and responding that the features aren’t working.

I’m hopeful that I’m wrong, but this is seeming more and more like vaporware. I have a big towing trip this weekend that I’ve been really hoping to have the gear lock for, but OV doesn’t respond and doesn’t deliver. After giving them $640, I’d really think that I’d at least get a response to emails...if not the product I paid for. I have a stock drivetrain that hasn’t been reflashed. There’s no great mystery or customization to my programming.

I’m posting here to share my experience with those who are thinking about OVTune but perhaps don’t want to wade through hundreds of pages of comments. In retrospect, I wouldn’t have made a purchase here, because I can’t get either a product or a response from the vendor.

Initiate the countdown before the vendor comes in and posts “just wait...your file will be available next week” and “do you know how hard programming files is?” I get that it’s hard—that’s why I paid $640 for it. But don’t sell a product if you can’t deliver it.

@lawfarm did you order the VF Tuner kit or did you get in on the custom tunes before the stopped offering it?

I ordered the tuner kit that they’re currently selling. Software, cable, tune.

So, just to put it on out there, I paid him almost a year ago and I still don't have a finished tune. He's argued with me and threatened to sue me and even called me an asshole in one of his emails to me.

He has Direct Shift available for my ECU but he refuses to give it to me because he's mad at me.

Tow/Haul mode in D is no longer functional if you request Gearlock. When I pointed that out to him, he changed his website to say that mode is not compatible with his tune.

VF Tuner software has no estimated completion date. Just many months of claims that it is coming.

At this time point I have to call it a $600 loss and move on to a competitor product. A year of my time and $600 wasted

Honestly, I’d be happy to have the working tune now. Barring that, it’s likely starting a claim against the vendor and working to reverse charges. I mean, even an actual response would be a start.

Hopefully you get a private response from @OVTune that meets your needs. If and when you do, please let the community know.

Why it have to be private?

And why do you hope for a "private" response and then ask him to share with us?

I'm sure you can dispute with your CC company. That usually triggers a quick response from the other party.

Ive gone back n forth in my head over what to buy when 2020 support is available... and in all honesty i think i will just wait for HP Tuners. It appears to be much more commercial and supported.

Simply because he didn’t say that being happy required more of a public callout. If this thread degrades to a bash Ov thread, it will get locked and that helps nobody. This way the thread is likely to stay up for everyone to reference, he gets the response he needs and the community gets an update. It’s a potential win all around.

And no, I have no affiliation with the tuner. Not even in the same country. But did seriously consider buying from them until I got lost in that other massive thread.

I'm just sick and tired of everyone being afraid to talk about what's really going on with that company so other people can avoid wasting their time and money. The minute you put pressure on him in a public space you get locked out of the thread.

Then the next guy is clueless as to what he's about to get in to...

Didn’t Toyota make it very difficult to tune the 18’s and up due to all the new safety features such as TSS? the first thing I looked for after getting my 18 was a bullydog tuner but they are only available for 17’s and earlier.

To the the OP..file a chargeback with your bank. That will hit them where it hurts most, in the pocket, and they will either make it right or go will get your money back. It’s BS that they will take your money but then you have absolutely no way to contact them.

Look what happened to Victory4x4 after the BS with their roof racks and lack of communication with their buyers over the flawed instructions they provided. Not sure why OVtune would get any different treatment if they are not taking care of their customers. It can’t go both ways.

To be clear, I would really prefer that OVtune is really successful and has awesome tunes that we can all use. That would be my ideal outcome.

I’m tired of it too. I’ve also been hit by other vendors for $$$.

We already know where this approach will take us. This forum is a business and they have rules. This type of thing gets locked or deleted. Let’s not do the same thing and get the same result.

I’m suggesting that this thread already accomplishes what you are talking about. The pressure is already on. Let’s do what we can to keep this thread alive so that the pressure stays on. Just trying to work the system to our advantage here!

We do not charge our vendors. The CoC is more of a guideline so it’s as work and family friendly as possible.
Additionally, @OVTune is not a vendor on Tundras.

Ordered direct through HP and received it 4 days later. Setup was easy with no issues, older and not very tech savvy. Was able to tune the truck same day for the few things I wanted to change, very happy with it, nice and simple for me to understand. I can see the work OV has put into the options, and VF Tuner offers more for less $, but if you get nothing/working on it after purchase idk..
    Im tuning on a 2018.

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
    To this and the OP’s comments;
I appreciate the honesty and sharing the concerns! While I hate it for those that are waiting weeks, months, years, I appreciate the hell out of those that have shared their experience!!!
I don’t agree/need to hear any bashing. Just simply reading the different experiences is all I need to make up my own mind. I know there’s some that have not minded waiting weeks or months.

I’ve looked into tuning for a few years, and was honestly excited when OV first came around, but decided to hold off since they seemed to be a bit of a WIP with switch activation and gear-locking options, etc.

The subsequent volume of the other thread’s posts about the various issues, timing and [IMO] inexcusable CS, has turned me off completely.

I certainly wish the OV team all the best, and hope those that have already paid, get their tune(s).
I understand the time involved with programming, especially when its never been done before...you’re paving the road you’re driving on (no pun intended).
It sounds like they just simply bit off way more than they could chew.

‘Here’s wishing everyone the best!

If I don’t get a tracking number in a couple weeks, I dispute it.

Not a lot of people know that Bob doesn’t charge for being a vendor. It’s a privilege to be here, not a purchased “this is the product to get” right. Personally I think it’s awesome he keeps it free and a place where we all can go to chat about cool stuff. I’ve learned so much from the site.
