Front suspension suggestions

I have an 08 4x4 crewmax and last year I had a 3/1 level lift installed with 5100’s all around and spacers in the front and blocks in the back. My problem is that while the stance looks great and rides slightly better then the worn out stock setup it’s still a little jarring of a ride. Can anyone suggest a budget friendly swap for the front to get a better ride. FYI I’ll also be installing spc upc’s at the same time.

 

6112s ride better as will any lifted coil over vs that front spacer. @Toytec Lifts has several in the 2-3 inch range that are not too expensive. You have several options running from around $650 to as much as you want to spend.

 

I know I’ll be in the coilover realm just wanting to see which set offers the best bang for the buck.

 

Bang for the buck I would say 6112s, the BOSS 2 and 2.5 kits and Old Man Emu are great options for the $.

 

The toytec boss 2 is what I was thinking. Just don’t know anyone personally with them.

Check out Rough Country, I believe they have a 3 inch coilover for 300 bucks. I'm using there 6 inch coilover with great results.

 

100% agree. Red is a big deal breaker for me. Least favorite color on a truck anywhere.

 

Wouldn’t be so bad if I had a red or black truck but mine is like a slate blue.

I have the Aluma 2.5 coilovers on mine.

 

I'm a fan of the red... I think it looks sharp with a nice contrast under there, but I can completely understand how it doesn't look good on certain colors... could be a bit too bold. And I get that some just don't like Red... For instance, I'm not a fan of some other brands that use Blue

 

What was the main reason you went with the 2.5's? Any off-roading I do is mainly in the desert to get to the staging area to ride. On occasion we go to the mountains but that's just fire road stuff.

 

It was the newest kit up from the original Boss kit. The Aluma 2.0 came out after the 2.5. The main difference is the diameter of the shock body, with the 2.5 being the larger one. They are both 700 lb springs.

 

Cool, thanks. I talked to the Toytec's "technical" dept and after discussing how/what/where I drive he recommended the 2.0 series. Does one have a choice on spring rate? I forgot to ask.....

 

I don't think so on those IIRC, you would have to call them again.

 

I just put 6112 set at 1.9 two weeks ago, the next day we set out on a 3300 mile road trip. I can honestly say that my truck rides better than when it was new. I called Darren at Boss Offroad on Friday, They were on my doorstep at noon on Tuesday. Best bang for your $$$.

 

The springs on the Toytec Ultimate are manufactured by Eibach. Toytec has them available in silver as well as red. I had the same kit on my 2005 Toyota 4Runner.

 

The ultimate one utilizes year same 5100’s I have now.

Yes, 5100 shocks, but the coil springs are Eibach.

 

I have a similar question for this thread. Mine is a 2012 2WD and i currently have the 3/1 RC kit on it. I am trying to do a budget build with this as its not 4WD so i wont take it off roading there for i don't want to spend 4-6 grand on a kit ad installation. If i were to get the Max Track 6" lift kit what would be the best option for front replacement shocks since that kit does not come with one.

 

The Maxtrac 6" lift DOES come with a strut cartridge to replace your factory strut but utilize your OEM coil spring, followed by a spacer on top to compensate for the coilover's lack of height. Regardless, you could substitute that coilover/spacer setup on the Maxtrac kit with Rough Country 6" N3 coilovers which run $320.00. You will still need the Maxtrac kit, but at least you will not have that stupid top spacer as it affects handling and strut life.

 

I see a 3.5 set. I wonder how this compares to the 6112’s

 

Two different designs, The Bilstein uses a adjustable spring seat which is equivalent to a preload spacer. The RC utilizes the OEM spring unloaded on a longer shock...

 

Gonna sound like a real newb here but which will provide the better overall ride?

That seems like logic based on design just wish someone on here had experience with that specific setup.

 

Just to clarify, do you have spacers on top of the 5100s?
