Drilled/slotted will bring up debate. I'm of the opinion that they belong on the track, and serve no purpose on a truck. If your brakes haven't been upgraded to the 13WLs yet, then I'd get this kit. I have it on mine, as do a few others.

    @bmf4069 :rofl:

Big brakes on a first gen are upwards of $2k and their benefit is questionable.

I would go with Brembo blanks or something similar. I'm with BMF on this, drilled brakes have less area for the pad to bite on and won't benefit a daily driving truck. Same goes for slotted. Just don't go cheap and any plain rotor will do.

I bought the Stoptech kit (drilled/slotted rotors and pads) from TireRack and have almost 100k on them. Not a squeak, shimmy or speck of dust anywhere! I do mostly highway miles and know that the slots and holes are largely for show, but this was a good buy. If you’re looking for more braking, you’ll need more than this kit, however.

Yes - drilled rotors will be Felt by your feet. I mean just that, when depressing the brakes, especially medium to hard, you will feel the holes. Not hear them just feel them not to be as smooth as regular or slotted rotors.

I like slotted because they help disperse water better than not having slots. Drilled are for better cooling. If you can find angled vane rotors, those are best at cooling because the angled vanes grab the air and funnel it thru to the center. I found those from Centric. Otherwise seem like a good deal.

    ^^this^^

consider frozen rotors; will be installing these on the tundra as soon as factory brakes are done.

had an '05 titan with rotors that belonged on a sentra... warped... warped again... replaced with frozen rotors. they are cryogenically frozen and this is no gimmick. mixed those with some green box hawk pads. i drove the pickup like i stole it, and those rotors would NOT warp.

currently own a '19 cm limited tundra. these are the best factory brakes i've ever had on a 1/2 ton pickup.

when these pads go, the whole setup will be replaced with power slot frozen rotors and green box hawks.

Am I reading that right? A set of new rotors, and calipers, *and* brake pads, for just $206? Seems like a sweet deal.

Don't forget to factor in the almost $70 core charge. Shipping the cores back is on your dime so after that's all done the total will probably be around $250. Still a good price for the kit, and in my case of having the WE calipers this WL kit will be an upgrade. I believe you already have WL's on the 06. Oh, and Rock Auto is currently out of stock on this particular kit.

just because they are slotted or cross-drilled doesn’t mean they will be better than stock blanks. Give me a few minutes to find the supporting video and testing if you guys really wanna nerd out on brake pads and rotors.

    Here's one for brake pads

Drilled/slotted look good and add 12hp atleast...

I have the z36, I tow a lot. They are excellent, smooth as oem but much more powerful in the braking sense. I added stainless stop tech lines and the pedal feel firm and assuring with 5-6k pounds out back.

I really thought it was. Give a bit more insight into OE parts and why sometimes it's not worth venturing out from them.

So I have a 17' SR5 with 32k on them and just noticed a shutter/shake when towing/braking hard mainly on downhills or some highway speeds when weighted down. Does anyone have any advice on how to check and see if the rotors are warped or if new brake pads are needed? I have always wanted to get a bigger set up since we tow both a boat and camper for a good portion of the year. Thanks for any help/advice.

@bmf4069 , did you do a self install on that set you mentioned above? How have they been working for you? I figure that since I am looking at some Falken AT3W's then getting both tires and brake done at the same time would save some money and time, no rush though.

If there's shudder or vibes when braking it's time for new rotors. The z36 mentioned before are your best bet for extreme duty and towing imo

I did, but with mine being older I did that set to get the bigger calipers and rotors off of 03-06 tundras. You should be fine with a standard rotor/pad swap. I wanna say stoptech makes a kit that doesn't need new calipers.

Brakes are super easy to do yourself and are a great way to ease in to working on your own stuff if you're so inclined. And yeah, @Surf_spear_Mex is on point with his diagnosis.

I just went through about 300 photos in my album to clean up some space. Many of those were screen grabs of your brake work which I copied so feel a little better about knowing that you’ve been helpful here. I also used your axle bearing pics to learn about undoing the shit work these goofy mechanics did on mine.

I think the only thing you messed up was the valve cover job and then disappeared for a few months.

If you're gonna upgrade brakes I would go all out and move up to the GX460 calipers and rotors. Go big or go home.

Yeah. All new master cylinder, booster (sized proper), and brand new calipers with Toyota Pads. Do it all right at the same time.
