Black step bars that DON'T rust.

Looking for a set for my 2020 Limited double cab. My 19 had chrome but I like the look without them and think the black will look great and not be as noticeable as the shiny chrome.

Does anyone make these out of aluminum or are there some that come rhino lined so they won't rust every time a rock chip opens up the paint?

 

A friend of mine took his step bars into the shop that does linex. Was surprisingly inexpensive (couple hundred maybe) and that stuff is very tough.

 

In Upstate NY virtually nothing is immune to the salt on the roads. I had my steps rails powder coated and still any chips in them rust. Line-X may be a better solution if you live where the roads are salted.

 

I put on some APS iBoards last year when I got my truck. They're powder coated aluminum, pretty low profile, and relatively inexpensive. I've been happy with them so far. Here's a pic and a link to them on Amazon.

Absolutely love my ADD lite steps. Super thin, strong, no welding, and they’ve made it through two Northern Nevada/Tahoe winters.

 

I have Ionic 5” Black Stainless Steel boards on my truck. Everything including the brackets are stainless. I like them a lot and was able to sell my OEM boards for close to what the Ionic’s cost me. I ordered them thru Running board Warehouse.

 

How tight are they on the top? I’m looking for steps that don’t leave a large gap between the step and cab.

 

Check out the Toyota predator tube steps. They are aluminum and black.

 

I spent a year finding the best steps. Virtually no gap, and they don’t look goofy like the rb20’s

 

I've noticed (forum stalked) you both have the ADD Lite steps. Are you guys happy with them? Do they provide decent traction or are they slick when wet?

 

I have N-Fab Podiums on mine that I had Line-X'ed after the powdercoat started flattening out.

 

These from Rhino are bedlined. About as good as your going to get. How many Lake George winters? Idk..5-6?

 

Mine are Go Rhino Dominator D6. They have plenty of traction on the top plate.

 

I have the RB20s with the bed liner coating (ordered them that way) and they have been fine so far. Ive also had a set of NFAB Nerf Bars Linex’d as others have suggested and they are still in good shape.

 

Same set I have, no issues so far. The board is aluminum but the brackets and hardware are steel. No rust there so far after 9 months of straight rain. Not a lot of salt where I live, but they stay wet at least 75% of the time and so far, so good.
There is a little gap on the top but I fixed that by running some of this across the top and it pretty much disappears.

Do they mount to the frame? Can you post some pics please.

 

I had mine line-x'd and they are still rusting...

 

X2 for the iboards, going on 18 months and only part that does not look new is where I get rocks stuck in my boots and scratch the paint.

 

Maybe @marc32 has some thoughts.

 

The OEM running boards aren't the coolest around, but I've had good luck with mine as far as holding up to the weather. Now that I think about it, I don't think I've seen rust on any other Tundra OEM running boards either.
