I just dont want a aluminum bed or doors. The Jeeps have aluminum doors and look terrible, aluminum is not great for the bed box for obvious reasons. The rest of the areas are fine with me, aluminum doesnt rust either, bonus there.

Carbon fiber bed will cut weight while increasing strength, right? The new Sierra offers this option.

Cost is the major concern there, I don’t know about them specifically but they likely used a CFRP or something similar to what the Tacoma’s have but with CF. Honestly I would prefer a composite bed like the Taco. Its lighter and strong enough. Stays warmer than metal. But is very slick, bed mats fix that though.

Meh, I owned two F150's (diesel and 3.5 screw). The 3.5 got poor gas mileage if you drove it like you wanted to drive it; or when towing. Comparable to the Tundra actually.

The numbers they quote have to be calculated putting around without using boost.

Auto Start/Stop is actually the worst feature in the history of the automobiles. I looked it up. It's true.

I remember hearing about them testing for fuel economy and testing them at lower rpms to keep them from spooling as much. All I know is fuelly doesn’t make a great case for the Ecoboosts. It’s better than nothing I guess but not worth any up charge.

When I bought mine, it was actually an upcharge to get the 5.0 Coyote over the 3.5 Ecoboost. If I did Ford over again, which I won't, I would go with the 5.0.

So did I, and after watching the video I think it depends on the situation.

I've also aways been curious towards the effects of putting the transmission in neutral in traffic / stop lights would have on the transmission itsef.

And I didn't realize the engine would be smart enough to shut down the fuel injectors under engine braking. Figured just like idling, they'd be pumping something just to keep the fire lit, and more rpm would = more fuel. Apparently not.

You would think neutral at stop would gain a slight increase in efficiency just from reducing the load on the engine, but I've already been wrong once today, so I don't know. :notsure:

    Stop
Yes....every time you get in it has to be turned off.

Also, another thing I do not care for is the fact that all of the “tech” to make it work is still on the truck. I like things simple. I would even prefer a key in my Limited, but they did not give me the choice.

Tacoma V6 can't go uphill without huffing and puffing :D trust me, I had 2 new Tacomas .... It won't be a base engine for nothing towing wise!

I would like to see them add D4S tech to the v8 engine. They could even use and retune the 5.0L engine in the IS-F. This would allow more power and less displacement. The Ford 5.0 is 395/400 on power.

I owned an ecoboost, and when towing, you are in boost and the gas mileage is very similar to a V8 with no turbos.

I agree with the auto start/stop. I disable it every time I have to drive my wife’s Highlander. Engine stop, no a/c, no thanks. It may cost me money to repair the starter later on. It is one of the worst feature in automobile next to the cylinder deactivation.

Absolutely! Cylinder deactivation is running second place on my books. For those who have an interest in how their vehicles are running...that surge that occurs during the deactivate cycle is disconcerting.

In my opinion, it really depends on where you drive. I have to stop at a lot of long red lights on my commute so I think it would save me fuel (in the summer when I'm not running the heater full blast) but if you mostly have yield or stop signs or stop and go traffic, it probably isn't great. If they do add it, they need to include a disable button like GM did.

As long as their weight reduction doesn't lead to leaks like everyone else's did...

That's been their philosophy for years. My wife's 2012 Corolla seemingly wants to be in 4th gear at any speed over 10 mph.

One thing I find pretty funny is that everyone seems to want a diesel - and what do all of those have now - turbos. Yet try to put a turbo on a gas engine and it's the end of the world. With proper heat management and lubrication the reliability of the turbo isn't going to be the limiting factor in most vehicles.

And as far as auto start/stop it bugs me because you have to change your driving style. You have to allow for some creeping before accelerating from a stop - Tundra you can go from brake straight to throttle, but with the auto start/stop you have to delay to let the engine get settled.

I hate it because I want the a/c to remain on when I stop, both winter and summer. I like conditioned air. Also, I’m willing to take a 1 or less MPG hit by deleting auto stop; It won’t break my bank. May even cost me more in repairs starting/stopping engine so many times.

I may consider auto start/stop if there was an electric ac compressor that can run off of battery when engine is stopped. I’m not sure if that is even possible right now.

The GMs don't shut off if you're running the A/C.

Should have specified the GM half-tons. Manufacturers seem to know truck guys have different requirements than your average commuter.

The Ram eTorque system actually handles auto stop/start properly, IMO. I bet you see future vehicles using this kind of hybrid assist for the stop/start.

Difference is that putting a manual into neutral isn't for MPG. It is to prevent excess/premature wear on the clutch components. It's a way to prolong your clutch's life.

Not sure about stop signs but you expect me to sit there with my foot on the clutch all the way through every red light? But I always watch the light for the cross traffic and shift into first when it turns yellow.

Leaving it in gear means leaving the clutch disengaged, mpgs cost less than TOBs and friction plates.

I do that both in manuals and in autos, I know for a fact there's nothing wrong in doing it with manual transmissions, but I don't know if it hurts something in the automatic ones.

And justifiably so. Diesels put out 20x the pollution of a gas engine and it is not healthy for people who breathe. Asthma hospital admissions cost the country more than $20 million each year and add in the cost of medication and lost time from work and we all pay the price for diesel. Even the trucking industry is moving quickly to electric or fuel cell powered trucks as it reduces their operating costs.

It is wrong to compare big rig diesel engines with the ones put in cars and light trucks. A Cummins engine in a Ram is quite different from a Cummins engine in a Mack truck.

A key reason for fewer cylinders is that it reduces pollution even with the same cubic inches and power output. All the non-marine diesel engines use a turbo and so the technology is not rocket science if implemented properly.
