I don't have either, but the main idea I've been able to glean on here is you get Kings if you do more serious off-roading, and the ICON if you want a great highway ride with the ability to go off-road on the weekend. Its mainly progressive vs digressive damping, but idk the difference well enough to explain it.

EDIT: This graphic is what I turned up

I'm a fan of the toytec BOSS setup, although I haven't had either the kings or icons. So don't take my word for it.

Ive only had Icon and I put them on 2 different 4runners. Nothing to compare them too but I loved the road ride around shitty NY streets with them.

For the Tundra I am going to try Bilstein 6112 for a less expensive digressive option.

I just bought some King 2.5 front and rears after being told by guys with MUCH more knowledge and experience than myselft that Kings are their suspension of choice.

Take 3 different terrain types such as smooth, washboard, and rough. Drive 3 trucks through it all with different manufacture suspension systems, such as a King, Fox, and Icon. You guys will take the digressively valved shock just about every time. Been there and done that.

This article is also comparing a race series off road shock to a performance series off road shock (its actually not a fair comparison). These are not OEM replacement shocks. You will get some of the features but not all. Both are a really good quality shock.

I did some research and the OEM Fox has more fan base than the King. Better quality parts.

I'm not a pro so I suggest OP does his own research. :)

Do you do a lot of off-roading and/or washboard type trails at speed? If not, reservoirs may be overkill. That is to say the reservoirs help prevent fading due to overheating which is really only a problem in extreme circumstances. So I guess, as with anything else, it depends a lot on intended use.

Think of it like this. You live in a gated residential community and never drive outside the gate. A supercharger might not be the best use of your resources.

The coil overs themselves offer plenty of dampening and will be an excellent moderate to off-road use way to go. The reservoir is the added bonus to keep the coil over functioning "cool" by delivering continuous cycled fluid as the coil over travels (rebound and compression). You'll notice that most guys on here that have more off-road worthy Tundras will have the reservoirs on them due to how much they cycle and the more road driven trucks will generally have the 2.0 body units

I had icon extended travel on my Tacoma for like 8 years and loved them, figured i would try Kings so i put them on my Tundra.
They are both nice, i really don't see much difference, mine is just a hunting/work on the farm truck. For my needs, if i had to do over, i would probly just get Icon, just biased on my needs, I am by no means trashing King.

I heard Icon don’t do so well in areas with rough winters. I hear kings and ADS do better. Next year I plan on getting kings with adjusters. I hear the ride is Cadillac like. Coming from mountain bike suspension I like to mess with HSC and HSR.

ADS has the best shock finish in the industry!

Been very happy with my ADS shocks.

Yes they are from what I hear,

You can get the same ride from ADS as well with a 600lb spring on their 2.5s which is what I had prior to jumping to 3.ohhhh

One thing with king, they mfg their own coil springs and their coils don't have the best track record for retaining their tension.

    All stock-ish. Powdercoated blue suspension.

Cosigning that as mines feels quite sluggish now about 15k on the coilovers and tried to abuse them as best as possible without having to call AAA in the middle of nowhere. Now my coilovers have excessive preloads just to maintain the ride height I started before as well as trying to keep the driverside leveled with the passenger. They will be coming off for servicing and spring replacement next month. Going to jump into Eibach's 700#

Dammit man! You have me thinking ADS again. I don't want to deal with a spring that could go flat, not when I am shelling out 3K. What coil does ADS use?

Ride still nice and smooth after 16K. 99% of the time you hear nothing but good things about Kings, as well as ADS. I heard problems with mounting point on rear ADS shocks. Like they need to be put on real tight.
