ive noticed something now that i have the Obd2 bafx and torque pro. The speedometer on dash does not match what the obd says and is off by 2-3 mph at times. Even more puzzling is that the gps speed from google is also off from both numbers. i set the cruise at 70mph according to the dash and the obd had it bouncing from 67-69mph and google clocked me around 73mph. the only time all 3 agree is at 0mph.
since i use cruise control as a speed control where i know the speed traps are setup around town, im not sure which gauge is closest to reality and want to go as fast as I can and get away without a ticket. Anyone?

GPS will be the most accurate. speedos are always off a little; especially with larger tires. mine is off by 3.3%. for me, if it says 60, I am really doing 62.

My speedo is off by 5mph with my 33s. It happens.

Also, just do the speed limit and avoid an accident and tickets EVERYTIME you drive.

Mine is -2mph. I have 265/75/16 so it always reads -2mph according to my torque app, gps app and police radar stations.

I'm feeling in an irritable mood this morning.

Please stop posting that your speedo is off by Xmph. It's not, it's off by some percent. I'm running 275/65/R20 and my speedos off by 10%. If the speedo reads 30mph, I'm doing 33mph. If the speedo reads 55mph, i'm doing 60.5mph.

I was debating commenting this too "speedo is off by 3mph", so when you're parked it still says you're moving?

Find one of those unmanned radar road signs that displays your speed, I find those are pretty accurate.

Driving at the speed limit is pretty good, avoiding tickets and accidents every time you drive is always good.

Are your tires different size than stock? This will give you an estimate of how far off you are.

There is an adjustment mode on the BxFx. I ‘ve seen it and messed around with it, but haven’t dialed it in. The adjustment revolves around 1. You’ll adjust +/- in tenths increments which I assume is a factor. What the factor translates into I have no idea. I’ve adjusted both ways with what seems to me no results. I haven’t spent much time on it, but maybe you can dial it in.

I always believed this but mine is 2mph off at any speeds. 30, 60, 80; it does not matter. I set the cruise 2mph under from the speed I want and it is always off. Not sure if there is some other issue but as far as I know, the tires are the only thing that I put on that would change it.

Also take in consideration, wind direction and speed, incline or decline will also impact speed as well as tire size and tread....

I always wonder about the accuracy of those. Everytime I drive past one in my work van with stock everything it reads low.

Actually, we are all going about 67,000 mph +/- 1,000 mph as we fly through space, rotating on Earth's axis. So 3-5 mph is just a tiny rounding error. :plane:

I've been driving for over 40 years and never have had a speeding ticket. Yeah, my speedo is about 5mph off. Cops aren't looking for people going 5 over, they're looking for 10 or above. Just keep it in that range and you should be good.

Yeah. All kidding aside, my speedo is off by about 8% on 285/75/r16.

I did the math on the tire store calculator thingy a few years back and paired it up to some of these roadside radar detectors of that time. The numbers are close to the 8%.

I always set 10mph over the posted limit and I have never been pulled over in and around town in Las Vegas. On our freeways out here, going only 10mph over limit gets you passed by most of the other traffic. 75mph it is.

I live in Podunk now. Lived in Orange County CA. for 35 years. Often observed commuters applying makeup, holding a coffee and making lane changes at 90mph. 75 is slow on the 405, LOL. When I go down for the LBGP I do like the Romans do. Zoom!
