They get the job done for the most part, keep one in the truck just in case.

Now if I could figure out this draw issue...

I am trying to figure out how to program a key fob for my 2012 everything I have tried has not worked. Below I will put down the method I have tried but to no prevail. I would get to step 7 and my locks wouldn't cycle. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    1. With driver door open, insert key in ignition (dont turn) and remove, twice
    2. Close and open door, twice
    3. Insert key into ignition (dont turn) and remove.
    4. Close and open door, twice
    5. Close door
    6. Insert key into ignition and turn to on position (dont turn engine over) turn key to off and remove key
    7. Locks should cycle
    8. Hold lock and unlock buttons on fob for 1 second
    9. Press lock button and locks should work

Can you download a copy of techstream? There are some pirated versions available and a cheap interface can be had for around $15. Sorry that's the only way we do if at the dealership.

Sorry, I am not sure what techstream is. It is something that plugs into my OBD2? Still trying to learn some stuff in the process as well.

Its software that Toyota uses to communicate to the truck for programming and reading codes. There's a thread on it and a download link.

It's also possible that the key isn't emitting the correct frequency. There are to parts to programming the key, the fob (lock/unlock and panic) and the immobilizer (chip). Where did you get the key from?

Its just the remote, I dont have another key for the truck. When I bought it the dealer only had one key and remote. They gave me another remote but didn't program it. Unfortunately its now my issue.

There is a frequency code stamped on the back of the remote. Check and make sure it matches your existing working remote. Also if I recall there are only so many remotes that the truck can store. If your at the max the new remote won't store. Techstream can determine that for you. I'm on holidays right now so I can't check my Tecchstream against my truck.

I hope that isn't the case because I'd really like to have more than one remote that works on my truck. (I have toddlers that can and have lost keys to other vehicles for a few days at a time. Haha.) Where Is the techstream thread? Tried to find it last night.

My father in law has our old 2012 Sequoia. 206,000 miles on it. He was having brake issues, so he changed them all out, along with installing a new master cylinder. He bled the brakes at the same time. He’s been a mechanic his entire life, but hasn’t done it professionally since the mid 90’s, and doesn’t have a lot of experience with newer vehicles.

After all of that, the brake pedal became very soft, going all the way to the floor when stopping. No lights were on, and he couldn’t figure it out. He took it to a local mechanic. After working on it, (Including bleeding the brakes with a machine) they couldn’t get it fixed, and told him he’d have to go to a dealership. They told him they think it needs a new abs system, which would run around 3k.

When he picked it up from the mechanic, the brake, abs, and traction control lights were on, and he says the brakes are even worse. The mechanic doesn’t know what they did to cause the lights to come on but couldn’t reset them.

Before he goes down the dealership path and spends all that money (which he doesn’t have), I figured I’d check with the forum. Anyone experienced something similar? Anyone have any idea what the deal is? Since the Sequoia is so similar to a gen 2 Tundra I thought someone here may know.

I called a local shop that deals with Toyota off road equipment. I want to have my transmission fluid changed. He said they would drain out about 2.25 quarts and replace it with WS Toyota fluid. I asked if he could do it 3 times as I have read some people do that. The guy said it doesn’t make that much of a difference compared to draining and filling it once. Does that make sense??. I’m thinking if he did it three times, that’s three times more new liquid which should be better?. He wants $125 for a drain and refill once with 2.25 qts vs $350 for doing it 3 times and 6.75 quarts of fluid. My tundra has 87k miles and I’m thunking it’s time for a fluid change. I would appreciate advice. Shall I go somewhere else??.

It is possible he has air in the abs actuator. Techstream has a utility that bleeds the air out of the system. Maybe you can download Techstream and he could use it to bleed the brakes.

This extra harness appears to be tied into the fog light line.
Is it for the older version of the DRLs that was in the body panel below the headlights or is it for something else?

That looks like the harness for the parking sensors. does your truck have parking sensors in the front bumper?

2019 TRD PRO newb here (18,500miles)- just put it in 4wd for the first time and I immediately got the "Maintenance Needed - Take to your Dealer" warning. Had to reset the switch from 2WD to 4Hi to 4Low a couple of times to get it to reset back to 2WD (4Lo was blinking before then). Thinking I'd get the error code read at the corner Zone staore to see what it's sayin... thoughts?

I'm no mechanic, but the manual says we are supposed to exercise the 4WD about 10 miles a month to keep everything moving and lubed. Could be an issue with the actuator or something. Did you put it in 4Hi or 4 Lo?

Might this be your first Tundra? The Maintenance notification comes on every 5k miles or so, it could be a coincidence. The flashing 4lo light might indicate that it's not able to shift due to the transmission not being in Park or Neutral. And you can't go from 2WD directly to 4lo, you need do wait for it to go into 4hi first (no flashing 4hi light).

sorry, I guess I should have ben more clear, I'm the 2nd owner and this was the first time I put it into 4hi and 4 lo after two weeks of owning it.

the previous owner stated that he had put it in 4wd every month or so... hmm

    thx!

just had the codes read at the corner auto part store, nothing, no code, which is good. sO this must be a reminder for an oil change. On my way home I switched it on the fly from 2WD to 4hi and it changed in just a few seconds. Then when I pulled into my ohose I stopped and switched from 4hi to 4 low and out with no issues...

I guess I'll need to get more time under 4WD!

    thx!

Glad it worked. Be careful about driving in 4H on dry pavement at speed, and especially when turning. I found the manual slightly confusing at first with some conflicting info about this and the need to drive it 10 miles per month to keep it lubricated. The consensus here seems to be that its a good idea to engage the 4H/4L to keep it lubricated, but to only drive in situations where the wheels are allowed to freely spin such as rain/snow/ off-road. Hope this helps.

You can safely run 4hi on dry pavement in a straight line at reasonable speeds. If you're going to be turning at all you need to have loose gravel, mud, snow, ice, Etc. so that you don't cause binding.

Because the manual is attempting to make it idiot-proof, and you don't really need 4 wheel drive on dry pavement going straight. It is telling you what is appropriate and what will serve you best for the conditions. It is not stating what you can actually do. Driving in a straight line, and I mean not even taking bends in the road, Arrow straight, will not hurt your truck.

thanks all, yes, I was driving 30 and in a straight line while toggling "for testing purposes only"

I'm just glad that I don't need to get out and lock the hubs anymore! :p

Well, i must just be one of those idiots then, because all i did was quote the manual, then post a pic of it here, you're the one here claiming that it is somehow wrong. And BTW its pretty obvious that you don't need 4wd on dry roads, but some here might do it to keep up with the 10 mile per Month schedule that Toyota recommends. I report, you decide. :notsure:
