Am I the only one who wants an Access Cab

Seems like everyone favors the double cab. I guess it depends on the situation as we already have 2 4 door cars (those are my wife's and kid's cars) and I want a 1st gen but feel the access cab is more nimble (just in my mind) because it's shorter.

I did have a double cab F150 once and it was a great travel car for the whole family. This access cab (if I can ever find one) won't be used in that way necessarily. I have test driven both and favor the access cab

I prefer the AC, as well.

Its 400 lbs lighter and does have 30 less HP. It lacks the VVTi engine so its easier to change the Timing Belt and doesn’t suffer the Intake/Bypass Problems. Some report their VVTi nannies reduce power in critical driving situations. I like that the AC doesn’t resemble a Honda Ridgeline in regards to the 4 doors. Overall, we are a rare bunch that prefer the AC around here. I also like the Step Side 1st Gens.

The market place is slim pickings right now for our trucks. Last year at this time you could pick and choose from about 6-8 per week. Now nothing.

I prefer it. Just looks way better in my opinion, but I admit I occasionally wish I had the room of the double cab.

I looked at some DC and they didn't fit my bill. AC was right up my alley. I love my V8 Tacundra

I love my AC as an off-road play vehicle! I didn’t want to trade extra wheel base length for room inside. But it does get cramped if all three of us (everyone tall) go camping.

I like the AC over the DC but in the end it's just a matter of purpose and number of people that will need to fit.

My commuter car died and I've been solely using the Tundra for 70 miles a day and I prefer it over the car. I'm getting 400 miles to the tank, it's comfortable and reliable... Think I will stick with it vs buying another commuter, unless gas prices get even more ridiculous here than they already are.

Tell me about the stepside bed. I see them and I am unsure of the looks but does a stepside bed change any of the capacities (payload, towing, etc.)?

I have never noticed any capacity differences... Have had both square beds and step sides... I love the curves and style. No other current truck looks similar... everything now is just 2 attached square boxes on 4 wheels... The only issue I have encountered is getting a tonneau cover... Truxedo is the only manufacturer I have been able to locate... has to be a "low profile" roll-up one...

You can add me to the AC fan list. When I started looking at Tundras, I only ever considered the Access Cab. DC bed is too short and the RC doesn’t have enough interior room.

I think its an inch or two shorter, nothing that would make me worry. At least its not like the Taco 5.5' bed.

Yeah I had a 2nd gen, the wheel wells in the bed blended into the front of the bed, it was ridiculous

Yup, the one I drove seemed to get packed super fast for weekend beach trips. After an ice chest, a tent, a few logs of wood, space got scarce fast.

well color me stupid.... Ive always assumed that the DC bed was shorter than the AC bed. Looks like they're both 74.4 inches...

    I had no idea.

Anyone before 2004, you didnt have that option then, so it would be an upgrade right?

I like the extra room and have driven small cars and trucks for way too long.So I appreciate the space. Nothing against Ac's but sometimes you might need a spacious back seat for something fun.

I had a 2002 AC until two car seats just didn't work any longer. Moved to a 2006 DC and I enjoyed the room but always preferred the look of the AC.

Now I have a 2020 DC and prefer the look over the crew cab. I just don't like trucks that are half cab and half bed.. They look wrong to me.

    Amen Brutha!

A truck is a Truck when it has a single seat and an 8' bed or at least that is what I prefer!

    Passengers are overrated.

I actually think the DC's can look a little meaner when done right. We have a several members with really nice looking DC's. They don't look anything like a Ridgeline.

I really wish I had some of the features of the later 1st gens such as audio controls on the steering wheel and that roll down rear window.

Eh. Adding the power side sliding window wouldn’t be to hard. And radio controls are simple too if you ran 3 wires. The siennas of all cars had a wheel like the early tundras and there’s a part to add wheel controls to it[IMG]

Whenever I open my little Access Cab Rear Window by hand to enjoy the flow of Carib Breeze, I get little pieces of debris blowing in and messing up my freshly AeroSpaced Dashboard. The rear window is over rated.

I've had an 02' AC and an 06' DC and a 17' CM

AC:. Great for everything except that access door was always in the way! You can't get into it when parked next to someone and the space is useful until you have kids/carseats.

DC: Great amount of space and accessibility, but makes the truck with an already bad turning radius, even worse. Kids fit better and overall a more useful set up. And of course the power rear window is the cats meow.

CM: not even relevant here, but more room in the back seat then the front.

I have debrizzle blow in also when trucking at highway speeds. Sometimes I forget I open the window at lunch, and then by quitting time the condensation on the roof will roll backwards, and get sucked into the cab when I'm rolling home. o_O

Wetness develops on the rear view, and on the inside of the windshield because of this.

I like my DC for daily life and outdoor adventures. Lots of dry, climate controlled, secure storage. In a pinch, I can sleep on the back seat too. I think a DC looks sharp as well.

If I just needed a work truck, I'd get the AC. Nothing against them, they just don't suit my needs. Stepsides on the other hand I just can't stand. Ugly and impractical imho. Doesn't matter what brand of truck.
