Yeh, my family and friends all still live there. So horribly sad to see.

 

Well at least the California Mullet is safe and flourishing. Thats all that matters.

 

Same thing happening here in CO. Lots of beetle kill trees up in smoke. Forests mismanaged badly. Same in Orygun. Safe yearly controlled burns used to be the norm to prevent massive wildfires. Now everything burns....everything.....SMH

I agree that it's sad to see fire when it threatens homes/structures/businesses. Especially man made fire. My brother's home burned down about 10 years ago near SanDiego. I recently visited Yellowstone for the 4th time. I visited after the 1988 fires as a kid and saw it all burned. I visited 10 years ago and saw the saplings waist high. I visited last month and the trees are all 10-20 feet tall now. It's really cool to have seen this natural progression. Afterwards, I looked up on yellowstone NPS website and found that they have quite a bit of info on forest fires. Obviously, some of this may not apply to forest service land and I agree that in areas closer to developed areas there should be more fire prevention management. From what I've seen, most of the Cali fires were caused by lightning although the most recent one happening was shear stupidity. Yes, nature for millenia, self managed the ecological environment before man came along. For several decades the Forest Service was allowed to use ecologically sound forest management. I won't go beyond that. Don't want a forced vacation......

SPI, a lumber company and the largest private land owner in California has officially closed all of their lands to the public. The are also issuing mandatory evacuation orders for all of the Eldorado Forrest due to depletion of resources and high fire danger

 

Yeah, @Darkness , get your money back for your Yosemite trip if you can. One more 2020 rain check. Maybe next year will be better.

 

Yeah, I saw that on the news. At least one couple was lead down the road by a very brave Forest Service girl. Props to her!
