New Eaton Locker for Tundra

Hey everyone!
Many of us have waited and waited for an E-locker to be released for our 2nd and 3rd gen Tundras. There are a number of threads regarding this, but no real options for a true locker on our trucks. Released this year- Eaton is now making one. So here is my question.
Given the option for mostly “normal” driving on the road, in snow and ice, occasionally in the mud, on hunting trails, camping, ect. Would you get a Front locker or rear locker? School me on the benefits, pros and cons of both.
I won’t be doing any hardcore wheeling in my new 50k truck so I really just need to know which you guys would go with for what our trucks will see 99% of the time.

If I could only have one then its a rear. In the front I'd only do a selectable, ever.

 

looks like it is selectable. Wire the switch into your dash- and you’re good to go..

 

Your limiting factor will be ur front CV axles I ran a front and rear locker on my 86 4runner it worked good but i did break a set of cv axles then i did an upgrade to them and never had a problem but i think for me and what I did it was way over kill I hardly ever used it

 

Do the rear, skip the front. We have strong rear diffs. Far more likely to break something in the front than in the rear.

 

Rear seems to be the safest choice. It just seems Like it would be awesome to have it up front because all of our weight is up there. Upgrading CV’s gets into a whole new deal

 

If you're gonna larger tires doing gears along with the locker makes sense, IMO

 

Great point- might as well do the 4.88’s since you would already be in there.

 

Rear is the best choice if you can only have one. Selectable is the best choice for me front and rear. That is a rear locker, there is also an elocker for the front.
I have both of them in my Tundra as do several people on here. I've had zero issues but admittedly have <10K on them so far.

 

What could install likely cost on something like this, assuming I did the 4.88 gears at the same time.

 

Labor depends on where you live and how experienced they are, 6-700 would be fair. Thats just installation, you'd have to run the wires and switches.

 

I installed a rear locker (Lock Right) in my '02 Jeep Liberty. Replaced the factory ordered limited slip. People would see us show up and laugh, until we went places they could not. That rear locker was freaking awesome! Made all the difference in the world. Since it was a Lock Right I was able to install it without taking the carrier out, no set-up. Hoping to find something similar for the Tundra.

 

just go with 5.29 gears when you locker

 

That is what I did, added lockers when going to 5.29’s

 

Who has this installed in their 3rd gen and how do you like it?

I failed to get a Platinum with TRD package (maybe should have) so now a rear locker is of slight interest.
