I have shifted my search for a Tundra from newer used to new. They hold their value so well seems I can get the new for close to something with 5-25K miles. Is there any glaring differences between 2016 and 2017 SR5s? One better than other? Should I be looking/asking for anything in particular?

Not much between those but you might wait for the 18. Some bigger differences there.

like what? unfortunately I think my current ride and the prices of new '18 will make that very difficult.

I would be looking for the larger fuel tank not all SR5 have it. I think you have to get the SR5 up grade package to get both 16 and 17 should have the option

I have seen the gas tank thing. Unfortunately I think the tank upgrade is linked to the upgrade package that has the center console which is something I do not want (I want a full bench seat). I have a 28 gal tank now, so I am used to it.

that's exactly why I ended up with new. As soon as you start looking at excellent condition newer model years, you may as well just pony up the little extra cash you need and enjoy a new one

there is no differences worth mentioning, if at all, between the 16 and 17
Yeah, the tank is part of the SR5 upgrade package, which does include the bucket seats. So, you are correct in the fact that if you want the bench seat, you'll have the smaller tank.

GET THE LARGER GAS TANK! I had a 36 gallon tank on my previous 2014 3.5L (ecoboost) F150. Man I loved that. yes it cost more to fill from E but the tank lasted soooo much longer. Granted the MPGs were better in that truck. I feel that my current tundra with the 28 gallon tank is not a sufficient size for the MPGs the truck gets.

If you were wondering. The 16s and 17s reduced in the percentage of American and Canadian parts by 5%.

This is a fun fact - not meant to knock down the 16s or 17s.
