I'm not the biggest fan of Samsung's stuff, simply because I've never had good luck with their phones/washers.

HOWEVER...I own 4 Samsung TVs, with the oldest one being a 10 year old big b@stard of a LED TV. With one exception (optical port went out on our newest 58" TV), they're all working perfectly.

Next purchase will likely either be a mid-range LG or Vizio just to try something different.

I recently picked up a Vizio 70" 4k from Costco which we've been happy with. It has all the apps, etc built in too which is nice. Had to try 3 different Costco stores before I found one that had any in stock. Can't beat it for the price.

I got a samsung 4k, the wifi keeps dropping and major pain in the arse to keep forgetting the network and reconnecting so I have it wired by ethernet. It's a TV I put in the basement and rarely watch so I didn't bother returning it.

My Samsung dryer was the best of the 3 I've had in the places I've lived so far. Nothing else gets my clothes dry. And my Samsung phones have been better than my family's LGs and Windows phones, though maybe not as good as my dad's Pixel.

The reason "LG guys brag about their blacks" is because it's actually black. Each individual pixel in an OLED display is its own light source, so when there is a very dark scene, pixels can turn themselves off which gives infinite contrast. LED screens receive light from "arrays" of bulbs, typically around the edges on cheaper models. When a scene needs light for a bright object, any dark parts of the scene has the light still passing through it. More expensive LEDs might have full arrays with light sources behind the entire screen, which will give you better contrast.

If you go check out an example of some HDR content in the store you'll see what I'm talking about. I have one and it really is the best picture I've ever seen. Good luck!

About 4 years ago I bought the cheapest 55” TV that Amazon has to go outside on my patio. I think it is a Sceptre. I cannot tell the difference in this TV and my 65” Sony that is in my living room. After 4 years of being outside, still works like a charm.

I did something similar.. 2 years ago I bought a 55 in TCL, I figure for what I paid, it’s practically disposable versus the $1600 Samsung I bought in 2008 that I wanted to get my monies worth before upgrading...

Zenith were solid too. Never saw lucky goldstar. I had a Hitatchi tv that lasted over 20 years, it never actually went bad but it didnt have a remote and was probably a 16" screen. I replaced it with a 27" screen that I got for free and thought was huge.

I should go back to the "I'm getting old" thread with those memories.

    Yeah me too!

I have been selling electronics since the 70's and if you had told me that people would be routinely buying $2000 tvs I would have said that you were insane.

Oh wait a minute, thats exactly what has been happening!?!

Remember when you could walk into a Sears Store period.?

And walk out with a $50 or less B&W TV?

Now you can drop a $100 on a small Smart TV,Progress?

We just got rid of our heavy 65" Mitsubishi tv from 2004 because the power supply board went out. Man that thing was heavy!

I will say this..... I was a Samsung fan until they came out with their 2020 models , which can't compete with their last year models. Samsung is pushing 8k, which is ridiculous at this point. I jumped ship to a 65 LG OLED, and the picture is Amazing, yes the darks are darker:rofl:

I just got a Best Buy advert in the mail. They were showing a 70" 4K LG for $599 I think, and a 75" UHD Samsung for $799. Said I think because I already threw it away and it's just too much effort to walk 15 steps back into the house and take it back out of the can (even though it is on top) to verify.

I have an old Visio flatscreen upstairs that has outlasted 3 of our downstairs TV's. We grabbed a Samsung last Christmas holiday after the Sharp downstairs crapped out but I would have loved another Visio

Did not see it here but it is over your $1k limit. Costco is going to have a Samsung 4K 82" TV for $1299 this month. Crazy price for 82" TV.

A few people have mentioned Black Friday deals. Be aware that these are rarely the same TVs offered during the rest of the year.
Manufacturers put out "derivative models" for Black Friday, which are stripped down versions of their standard models. Lesser features, warranties, and quality control, cheaper plastic and components, etc.
This is in addition to the no name brands that come out of the woodwork during that time.

It used to be a good rule of thumb that if you can’t find the model number on the manufacturer’s website, it’s one of the derivative models. I wouldn’t doubt that the manufacturers have figured that out by now though, so they may have started putting them on there.

In short, they make cheap knock offs of their own products just to sell during Black Friday. These are not up to the quality the rest have. It’s not just TVs. Appliances and likely other things are the same way.
