Dsr1 w/5 channel amp wiring question

Im working on swapping out the horrible JBL system in my 2020 pro. Looking at pulling the stock amp and dropping in a dsr1 and a 5.1 channel amp (not sure which one yet, kenwood most likely).


Ive swapped the door speakers with focal components, the dash with kenwoods, and disconnected the center.

My question is how are you all connecting the front speakers? On the amp do you just connect the dash and front doors to the same output? I know the dash and sail panel tweets are wired in parallel somewhere..I guess my question is that somewhere after the amp? Where are they connected?

Yes connect the dash and the door speakers to the same output on the amp. I connected the center to my left speaker as well. I wired my sail panel tweets to my door speakers.

 

So with the dash, sail tweets and door speakers, that load is gonna be under 2ohm for the amp..with the center being on one channel, its gotta be well beneath that unless your wiring something in series?

 

Yeah probably so. I have the stock center all the other speakers have been upgraded. It Sounds pretty good for stock. Not sure what effect that will have on my amp.

 

Interesting. Stock center to me was not good sounding with my doors and dash upgrades.

What did you end up doing on the rear doors? Just installed the focal is165's (coax) and disconnected the stock tweeter in the panel.. aannnnd whoopsie..looks like theyre wired in series, as I got nothing on either rear door...<facepalm>. Of course i put the panels back on before checking, because why would they be in series? Heh.

 

I have Hertz Speakers for the doors and dash. I don't notice to much difference with center. As far as the wiring. The only speakers I wired together were the front speakers. Wiring the tweeters to any other speaker won’t have a huge impact on the overall impedance.

you are better off wiring the tweets to the dash and leaving the door mid bass on it’s on channel. Do you not care about the rears? I wouldn’t worry about the center channel either. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions

 

Figured out the rear doors with a quick check.

If you disconnect the rear tweeters due to using coax speakers, you will get no power to the mid bass. The plug that connects the mid bass runs up to the tweeter plug, which I figured was in series, but that isnt the case.. the wires are laid out two hot, two ground. Theyre just paralleled when connected to the tweeter. If tweeter isnt connected, the wires arent connected. So if you just cut off the plug, and tie the two wires together (i just used some small wire nuts) your set. If you use the stock tweeter (bleh), you wont have this issue.

So now, no stock speakers are in play..just waiting on amp and dsr1 to arrive.

Correct. Will mute sub on amp since I wont be adding it until Oct.
